When it is hate and bigotry then it is hate and bigotry.
I mean if you didn't agree with with but played the game and let others use the optional function then that is one thing. To demand it not be there and mark it as political is another.
Calling disagreement with your position hate and bigotry because you don't like how it makes you feel is the primary reason there will never be any useful discussion on the topic. You're certainly free to scream right into the face of anyone who disagrees with you, but you'd have to be stupid not to understand how unhelpful that it. So keep up the good work here, Internet culture enforcer.
PS - While I have played the whole game through and have no reason to seek a refund because of this issue, I do still think it was a bad idea on TA's part for a couple reasons.
1- As Silverquick noted, there are real issues with this game that affect its playability. Regardless of how tiny you think the effort was to implement this change (an it goes beyond just the character creation screen, check the travel log when you journey from place to place), it still took time/resources to implement.
2- This is a hot topic right now, you'd have to be a braindead moron to think it isn't. TA took a gamble that this change will draw more people in than it will push away. That's not a gamble I'd have taken, but it's not my game.
3- It was a bit underhanded to not make this change until full release. People have opinions and they're allowed to express them how they like. Locking people in to a game that they may not have bought if this existed in EA is kinda not cool.
You do realize that you have this same option, right?
Here is why it is hate and bigotry.
IF you choose he or she do you see they?
Why are you not applying the same logic to those screaming in the face of those who disagree with them and their opinion that the gender pronouns should not exist. That there are only two and anyone who disagrees is braindead, stupid, brainwashed, and lots of other terms.
Hope you're directing some attention to them.
Are we allowed to call it hate and bigotry when it is actually hate and bigotry?
Or they simply believe it is the right thing to do. We're not talking about a megacorp here. They're so small, I'm not sure we can assume corporate expediency.
I wasn't trying to imply otherwise. The point still stands though that this is a gamble, maybe moreso for a small company.
And, if you do find a way to do it, hit me up, because that's some magic I need to know about.
Why don't you take a deep breath and calm down for a minute. Regardless of If you choose he or she in the character selection you do see they in the travel log that scrolls down the left when you travel from place to place. So the answer to your first question is yes.
Second, I am applying that same logic to those screaming about how gender pronouns should not exist. As it stands, the OP made a simple statement to the game developer that he would not be buying their game and said why. Then a bunch of people piled on calling him a hateful bigot. Then a bunch of other people inserted themselves here and there and started their own name calling. And what you have is the devolution of conversation that happens when two groups of people start from the point of anyone disagreeing with them being evil.
If you think I said there should be only two pronouns, please quote the post where you think I said that. I'll make your search quick, I never said that. What I said is that putting this into the game was a bad idea.
If you see any cases of actual hate and bigotry, sure you should call them out. However, the war over pronoun use has nothing to do with hate or bigotry.
Imagine saying, "This bank stopped giving loans to people of <given political persuasion>, so I'm gonna rob 'em instead. #GetWokeGoBroke" Bragging about committing theft because a company doesn't seem to align with your political views doesn't do a whole lot for those views.
Those monsters!
