Tome of Understanding seems to be bugged...can't read it.
I've identified the book in my inventory, but right-clicking the item gives only Close and Drop item.

I am having that same issue as well - I don't see an option to begin reading it in the crafting screen either.
Not unless there's a thing where it depends on a random event where it says a character is reading chapters from a book - which would be horrible, really.

Is that book actually supposed to do something in this game?
I sold it.

It is the same type of book you get from the antiquarian vendor. It raises a stat +2.

Well then it's bugged for me as well.

Yeah, I just kept it in my cleric's bag so he can look at it longingly.

It should raise WIS by 2, but it is bugged.

I do the same, at night whilst the others sit along the campfire swapping tales he looks at it and dreams about what could have been.

But to be clear we are all talking about the loot gotten in the Dark Castle?

I believe so. Patch notes implied that the fix will coincide with the Sorcerer DLC. The recent patch did not fix it. I mean it is not really a critical issue. I am just happy primed longsword got added in the said patch :)

These books have a duration of 4 hours as per their description. Youre better off selling them compared to wasting 5.000 Gold on +2 to a stat for 4 hours. If that were +10 Id consider them for the final battle but +2 is just a joke.

Wait, these things only last 4 hours?! Ability Tomes have ALWAYS been permanent?! Terrible idea and implementation with this interpretation, I'd say.

What? It's not in the description or in the rules that they only last 4 hours.

The tomes you can buy from a faction (The Antiquarians I think) are permanent.

The 4 hours is the duration it takes to read it. The effects are permanent.
