Resting
I was watching a review video, and the reviewer mentioned that you cannot spam rests. Plus, it sounded like you did not fully recover when resting.

Are there some special rules or different types of resting? I don't really like the idea of not being able to recover spells and health with resting.

You cannot spam long rests. If you have taken one within the last 24 hours, the game asks you if you want to wait for a new day. However many hours that is and then you can take another long rest, if you have 4 foods. You can take short rests which allow you to spend hit dice to gain health. Some spells and abilities (like action surge) do restart on a short rest. And the wizard has arcane recovery which allows some spells to regenerate.

You only get spells back from a long rest you need camp fires to do this short rests you only get limited hp back and some skills that dont need a long rest

Thank you. So if i understand correctly, you can short rest as often as you like, and long rest once per 24 hours given 1 food for each party member. Only long rests allow spell memorization and preparation.

You can do a long rest (or even multiple long rests) any time you encounter a usable campfire. However if it hasn't been 24 hours since your last one, you'll be given the option to wait around a while before starting the long rest. As mentioned long rests require food, but a sufficiently high level cleric with Create Food or a Ranger/Green Mage with Goodberry can make the food requirement basically vanish. In the main town you'd have to get a room at the inn to do a long rest.

A short rest is a 10 minute period of not doing much, and is useful for attunement and a few other things as mentioned. You do, however, have to gather your party together to do a rest, long or short. (Which can be an issue if one party member is unconscious, and you don't want to use healing items on them in order to do a long rest, which would heal them anyways.)

this is not true - your wizaed can use "Arcane Recovery" to gain low level spell slots back during a short rest, the feature can be used once per long rest.

Not a fan of the rest system. Not sure why my party of adventurers can’t make their own camp fire. Must all be city folk.

Can’t wait to give the game a good run this weekend

Kind of why I asked as it has me on the fence about game. It sounds tedious and annoying to me, along with limited classes, and it sounds like no multiclassing.

I want to add that I really enjoyed my time in the game and cant wait to play the full release this weekend. I am not a fan of the rest system but I am really enjoying the game. So its not a deal breaker, atleast for me.

IF you could spam long rests, then magic would become OP because you could use every spell you had each battle and then just rest again and ge tthem all back. Its there to make the game challenging, because you have to decide when to use spells and potions.

I guess I prefer something kind of in the middle like other games did, where you have camping supplies, where you could rest in certain areas as long as you had those supplies. But had to be a bit choosy because you only had some much of the supplies.

I'd quite like it if there was a configurable "sleep anywhere" option like a lot of the other easy-mode settings that were added in the last early access update. You can already remove the food requirement through a setting. It's probably not that huge of an issue though since only a few areas have campfires that are much of a challenge to reach.

Aren't there settings options to change food and resting?

Yes there is, there is an option for a fully healing during a short rest. There is also an option where food isnt required. So thats good.

I am always in favor of more options :)

Just going to note that Arcane Recovery isn't properly implemented RN, so its usefulness is severely limited.
