The early game felt like it had way more artifacts then later.
You gotta say certain, pass certain skill checks and then give certain artifacts to certain groups for max relations.
Having done that, I found that only three of them are really worth bothering with, and ended up getting Antiquarians to Legend (for... just all sorts of things), Dannatar to Brotherhood (for Shield + 2), Arcaneum to brotherhood (for most of the primed items, and crafting) and didn't even bother with Tower of Knowledge, beyond giving them artifacts that only they would take (with only one spellcaster, they were just pretty irrelevant).
Some items you can only give to one particular faction, and it's useful to know the levels. If I recall correctly, brotherhood is 50 to 79, and legend is 80+? Don't quote me on those numbers - but something like that.
So you can effectively just do the maths to figure out how to maximise your rep on the factions you want.
I was a bit disappointed that the Morningstar +2 was reserved for Living Legend at Danatar, even though you could get other +2 items at a lesser rep.
The biggy at the Antiquarians for Living Legend is the Belt of 25 Strength, but weirdly you can get a Cloak of Protection at a much lower rep than the Ring of Protection, even though they're basically the same thing.
The Tomes at the Antiquarians are good for min/max'ing but otherwise quite ignorable given their cost per reward, you can boost most of the important primary stats with cheaper equipment.
I'd say other then achievement hunting, Brotherhood is probably as far as you 'need' for any one faction that has the kind of stuff you're interested in and don't worry too much about the ones that have stuff you don't fancy much.
I don't know why people are overrating the tomes so much. They are a lot more expensive than items and often the items give you a bigger boost or are at least equal. Unless you already have 3 good items for every character they don't seem worth it.
I think they could ask a few more chances to increase faction reputation, since the game could also use more skill challenges out of combat, that could be a good combination.
XP we get plenty so no need for stuff added that gives more XP, just more faction reputation. And maybe gold, a little more would not hurt balance.
I didn't either. And I thought I combed through everywhere, everything.
Apart from the ones available from contacts depending on reputation, there is one you can get at the Dark Castle, depending on whether you kill or persuade the owner. However. the tome is currently bugged and only good for selling.
