There's no limit on magic items. The limit is on magic items that require attunement. It's in the D&D 5E rules.

Doesn't really explain WHY the limit of 3, but I guess it's the same reason you can only have 1 magic ring per hand.
In the end it'll boil down to balance being the reason.
I haven't played DnD, but there's no point in attunement. I played Solasta from its release in early access and put on a protection ring and it gave 1 protection without binding to the character. Roughly speaking - "why do you need slots for equipment" for boots, rings, amulets, belts and head-just 3 slots without reference to the type of equipment
why 9 slots if there are only 3 working slots
if you take into account the armor -10 and even it is necessary to tie it
Can add an option on the release that disables attunement?I'm not a dnd player, I just love good RPGs)

Well I understand your concern and attunement may be not a good solution (there ARE many threads on the internet talking about this) but that's what they came up with in 5e to avoid characters being invicible through their stuff (roughly said).

It may not please you but as a reminder Solasta IS a D&D 5e and in that way there are much more people that would be unpleased if TA remove attunement from Solasta than the opposite.

i know you won't like my answer, neither do I, but I cannot do better staying objective.

I never liked D&D 5e's rule on limiting attuned magic items but I understand the necessity of it. In my home games I changed the limit from a fixed number ("3") to your Proficiency Bonus so higher level character could have more attuned magic items. At 1st level, for example, you could have 2 attuned magic items while at 9th level you could have 4.

Yeah it's quite a common homebrew rule.

Seems to be a perfect solution.. Let it be a houserule that can be set on game creation or perhaps tied to difficulty. Having an option to enable or disable features doesn't force anyone who dislikes the idea to use it.

I think that would be a good idea to add this in difficulty settings.

not happy about attunement, and really wondering why need to do a short rest to start the process, why wouldn't any rest period work?

It does explain quite a bit. Basically your forming a bond with the item is why it takes a short rest. It's a rule in D&D 5th ed Basic rule set. Home brew games can do what ever the GM wants, where as computer games don't have that ability.

You must actively do something with the object that depends on the object type (training for weapons, meditate for rings, etc.) so you cannot do it while actually sleeping.
