Voice Acting
So is the voice acting in the early access placeholder? Im not trying to be rude but its the flattest and most lifeless voice acting I think I've ever heard in a game. The actors and actresses sound like a middle class am-dram group who have never even heard of D&D or roleplaying games, let alone know how to nuance their voices for the character they're playing. Please tell me this iteration isn't final as it really detracts from the otherwise interesting game.

Poor voice acting will totally ruin an immersive RPG experience just as surely as gameplay bugs or graphical glitches. It's just not something you can skimp on.

You do realize it is very expensive to hire top notch voice actors. Larrian is not even having their game localized in a lot of voices because of cost and they have a very big budget, This is a comparatively smaller company with a a very small budget which could be blown on VA.

To be honest, no I did not know this game was from a smaller company and with that in mind its more understandable but still, these voice people are obviously not suited for this genre. Couldve at least hired cheaper va's with rpg/gaming experience. No offence to the people doing the voices, they just sound so out of place in this sort of setting. They kind of sound like radio 4 presenters (UK thing if unaware).

I haven't really had a problem at all with the voice acting, you should hear the voice acting at my tabletop games...

Ill bet... with the game voices it more that theyre all extremely middle class... it doesnt fit one iota in this setting other than maybe for a Lord. Maybe its a UK thing.

They're just regular folks like everyone else except they have weapons and magic. Why not... :)

Depends on which one...

The voices change depending on the character alignment. Some are really good.

BUT... if you take the "Formal" and "Lawful" type good type or backgrounds like Scholar or Noble... they do sound canned.

However.... when you take the things like Sellsword, or Lowlife with "Slang" or "Casual", or the Chaotic alignment types that include things like Greed, Egoism, Cynacism.... those get pretty funny.

I kept wondering why people were talking about the bad voice overs but after trying multiple personality types... I finally figured out. They kept taking the voices and lines that sounded so canned.

That's really where your mistake was.

AHhh, well thats actually good news as I was thinking seriously about shelving this game due to the voice actors. I have only played a lawful group (for a change) and assumed the voice actors used for those lines would be used for others also. Thanks for that angle and info, will take a listen to some other backgrounds :brotherfist:

Yeah caught me off guard too, because I totally didn't expect to be like real life.

Lol was hilarious. The Chaotics actually swear. The Lawful types sound like they have a stick up their az.

EDIT: I really shouldn't say it like that, its like... Formal vs Informal vs Slang. Depending on Background and Alignment. You'll have one guy sounding like some PC must make everyone "feel good" vs the type thats a wise cracker and always talking crap. I had one who had Greed and they were tyring to bill the Council which led to a funny exchange.

I love the voice acting so far. Pretty good for an indie company game.

It's a kickstarter so the voice acting probably won't change much or at all.

I did notice that background changes the dialect, but there are some things that stink. For example there is really only 1 voice suitable for dwarves, if you end up taking the wrong one your dwarf sounds weird as hell!

They could ask me im a wonderful voice actor I would do it for free :)

can't actually remember having deleted my entire game and the final stage because its bugged out into a no win scenario. But my wiz, rogue, ranger, paladin combo is pretty hilarious to listen to. The voices sound flat but they are always cracking jokes telling each other to shut up and being sarcastic all the time. I am more concerned with some of the stupid decisions the story makes.

Hmm heres a very powerful possibly magic item that this group of tough guys was guarding. No lets not put it in the bag and see if we can figure out what it does instead lets just wear the damn thing even though we have no idea if its cursed or not or what it does.

18 Int 14 Wis character did this and my instant response was umm scuse me

In my game it was the greedy character with 6 Int who did that, which made almost too much sense haha. Would be kind of cool if it automatically went to the dumbest character - shame that it's not the case.

It's cringey. But it's not just the VA's, it's the writing too.
