How do I identify items?

I have a wizard with identify magic, it's enabled. And I have an item but I can't figure out how I identify it

only during long rest, maybe short one, the only magic item I find was potions, I did not bothers to identify them.

Haven't tried it in game play yet... but during the demo, I cast identify as a ritual and it worked just fine.

same as in the demo..RITUAL button, then DET MAGIC if necessary or else identify

Ok, I figured it out. Resting did not do it for me. Instead I had to use a scroll of identify or cast the spell identify outside of combat. Doing this brings up your inventory and you can select the item you want to identify. Takes 1 game minute is all.

Like jimdirks said, identify can be cast as a ritual witch takes ten minutes outside of combat. There's a button that says ritual and has any spells that can be cast that way including identify if you have it.

Where is the Ritual button? Is that something to do with the greyed out cantrip button by your weapons?

NVM I found it.

You need to be a wizard that know the identify spell, the ritual button is always there (out of combat) close to the actions you can do.

you can do it that way if you want to burn gems...or you can have your wiz do it for free as a ritual
