My 4 human dudes all-fighters only party
All human males. All 16 16 16 9 9 9.

1) Gregor
Greatsword + GWF + Champion.

2) Sandor
Longsword/Shield + Dueling + Champion

3) Chad
Warhammer/Shield + Defense + Mountaineer

4) Tav
Longsword/Shield + Dueling + Spellblade

Yeah, with this setting, darkness is pain. I was not considering to use Spellblade because I wanted to try "Iron, sweat, blood" party. But I think I have no other choice to use Spellblade for light and dancing light cantrip. Hope TA introduce more options for lighting.

But man, my dudes rocks! It is incredibly fun!! That is all important to me.

You guys need to try this or something like this as well :steamhappy:

4 Clerics or 4 Paladins are too easy. 4 Rangers and 4 Wizards would be doable. But I think 4 Rogues or 4 Fighters will be challenging. But I'm not sure.

I've played it with 4 human rogues. It turned out to be straightforward

The key for me was to switch between weapon + weapon/shield and weapon + torch.

Then it's just focus fire enemies down.

I'd actually say that rogues are the most simple class for that, because you get to make real use of your bonus action. You can actually have a torch in the face of almost anyone anywhere.

That sounds interesting. You did 4 thieves? Or mixed archetypes?

As a "fun" experiment on my next run, I will be using 4 Human (or Halfling?) Rogues. My plan to compensate for the "Light Challenge" is to have my two frontline Rogues wielding Rapier + Torch to illuminate targets for my archers. No buffs, crowd control (including Turn Undead), area effects, crafting or healing (with spells) will make it challenging so the tactics will be "Kill it quick!" and make extensive use of Cunning Action (since I will have no dual-wielders).

I did 4 halfling rogue thieves. Was surprisingly easy. Two melee fighters that sneak forward, dump torches on the ground, and start stabbing away, and two sitting in darkness and turning the enemies to pincushions after they've been lit up. All made liberal use of potions for added mobility and defensive stats, but didn't use any healing.

The two sneakers also occasionally spent time lighting wall torches and such, but the vast majority could be handled just by dropping torches.

But the game as it is is incredibly easy. Which is why I began doing self imposed challenges in the first place. I imagine that what we have now is what will be easy difficulty once that setting is implemented. So no idea if my experiences will reflect how things work in the final release.

My 4 rogue play through was going great. I chose 4 high elves so I could take dancing lights cantrips with all of them. High DEX meant decent AC, to hit and damage with finesse weapons and ranged weapons. High mobility was awesome because I could actually kite enemies around if I needed to. Was shaping up to be a viable group at least at the lower levels of the EA.

Well the most recent non-standard party I am running through with is an Elven Paladin, Elven Spellsword, Dwarven Ranger, and Human Shock Wizard with Sellsword background.

This one here...

I just started 3 wizards (one of each type) and a rogue.
Viper 1. nov. 2020 kl. 16.21
I always tend to stick to the standard Tank, Healer, Ranged, DPS party.

Well of the parties I've run...

Strongest was this one. This one wiped out the Vampire encounter like it was nothing, within one or two rounds. Sylvan Lightning Cleric, Human Paladin, Human Fighter (Champion), High Elf Shock Wizard with Sellsword background.

Second Strongest was this one. This is actually a Human Paladin, Dwarven Life Cleric, Half Elven Shadowcaster (Spy), High Elven Loremaster Wizard.

The only other non-standard party I ran was this one...

Its actually a Human Fighter, Human Ranger, Sylvan Greenmage, and a High Elven Shock Wizard. So no cleric, but was able to craft tons of Healing Potions.

EDIT: Last Screenshot was incorrect, now should like to the pic.

Keep in mind that the Marsh Halflings DO have "Darkvision", only the Island Halflings don't.

Sandor and Gregor should be fighting each other! No way they are in a party together! ;) lol

I am curious to see what other non-standard parties made it through.
Tyler Durden 2. nov. 2020 kl. 9.03
This sounds like a super cool idea!
DiceWrangler 2. nov. 2020 kl. 9.10
One thing I discovered that, without spellcasters or magic weapons, is that some creatures -- specifically some undead -- are very hard to kill due to being resistant to non-magical weapons.
Silverquick 2. nov. 2020 kl. 9.21
You do have a point, there's a serious lack of magical weapons in this game.
