Adding to Steam when already have it.
Is there any way, without redownloading the game, to add it to Steam? I have been playing NW since it came out and really dont want to re download it just to add it here. Thanks!

Can you use your old account when playing through steam or will it force you to start again?

You can play with your old account. You just have to download it through Steam to add it to your Steam library. Everything else stays the way it was.

With the new way Steam downloads and updates game its impossible to simply transfer the files over.

Back when Steam was using its old update system however, you could start to install the game then pause it, exit steam, move the files to the Steam folder, re-launch Steam and verify game cache. I used to do that all the time when a MMO I already had installed wound up on Steam. Tried it with Neverwinter and that old trick doesn't work anymore, Steam forces a new install anyways.

Well, you can add a non-steam game to your library if you want by selecting the option under Games at the top of the screen. Since Steam now has this game, I don't know if that will work but you can try. I've been playing it before it ever came to Steam, and like to load it to play without loading up Steam.

Well, the reason I would like to add this to steam is that I can download patches etc from steam without it counting to my monthly download limit from my ISP... I don't have unlimited. That brings up another question... will the patches actually download through steam or will it just open the regular Neverwinter launcher that I'm already using now to download?

Thanks for the answers BTW.

All patches and updates run through the games launcher. Steam just provides the base game.

The only real reason to install any f2p MMO on Steam is to have a second option to buy junk in game, via Steam Wallet.

they will get less money if you buy in steam obviously, so they prefer that you use it outside of steam, they just add to steam to get more visibility and hopefully more customers.

Alright thanks. I probably won't bother adding it then.

Thank you for the multitude of responses :) I will redownload it through steam so I can have it in there... I appreciate it...and I dont mind the off topics ;)

I realize this is an old thread, but there is a way to add the game to steam without re-downloading it. How I did mine was to start the steam download by starting the game. After the patching started I closed out of the game. I then opened my D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cryptic Studios folder in one file manager, then i opened my D:\Program Files (x86)\Neverwinter_en in a second file manager. I then copied the contents of the Neverwinter_en folder into the Cryptic Studios folder. When I started the game it went to patch the game and recognized that it was already patched and gave me the play button.

The solution in #12 worked for me, but I lost the auto-login feature of launching from Arc. Does anyone know any way to get that feature via the Steam launcher?

That's one of the functions with Arc, since it ties into all their stuff. WIth Steam, not so much I'm afraid.
