start doing daily quests as soon as possible and don't forget to refine the raw AD you get through it.
don't upgrade companions, just level them up, and if you have enough AD collected to get a better companion, check the Auctionhouse. in most cases a new much better companion is much cheaper then to upgrade even 1 companion you allready have.
when your companion has leveled enough, go to the AH and buy level 60 blue gear to equip. and put into their defense runeslot "Eldritch" runestones to profit from their stats.
when you have enough spare AD, start to convert them through the AD-ZEN-Exchange (icon at the top of your screen) into ZEN, to buy anything you need or want from the ZEN store.
for starters, wait for character slots to be on sale again, and then get a few, you will need them...
first "profession" to level up is Leadership. start with "hire a merc", when you leveld further enough, upgrade those to "train a guard" and then "train a footman".
you can then send those out on quests, that will give you more raw Astral Diamonds. the required assets can be bought from a npc in the city. a profession quest will lead you to it.
and you can use this profession to level any alt and earn more AD for your main character or to convert to more ZEN - and that would be the reason to buy more character slots at the beginning.
at level 20 you will receive a quest to get a horse, this will just be a temp. mount. so, buy yourself a cheap permanent mount from the AH for AD.
you can get bags through questchains, so keep an eye out for those and do at least those quests to get more room in your inventory.
last but not least, check your map for dragon events and participate as soon as you can, you can get some nice equipment from those, and the main and offhand weapon will increase with your level.
welcome to NWO.
edit: don't forget to invoke at least daily, safe your ardent coins for the companion Angel of Protection - yeah, i know 360 coins, equals 360 days, but see it as a huge bonus at the end of this long road.
and use your celestial coins for the Coffer of Wondrous Augmentation every 7 days, and hope for a Coalescent Ward.
If you see a huge half orc called Jarn crashing around just cut him some slack and maybe a wide bearth.
I've only played a little because as expected the servers are getting hammered so I will come back off peak to get further but for free it seems some pretty solid hack and slash so far.
"looks like meats back on the menu boys !"
and even then you have to use the old or the new ARC launcher to actual play the game.
