Actually haven't played Neverwinter in forever, but unless something's changed all of the Cryptic Studios games (this, Champions Online, and Star Trek Online) should be able to launch via a desktop shortcut to the game executable without getting steam involved.

I think they also have their own ARC launcher as well, but I've steered clear of it.

The Steam Chart represents at most about a third of the total players, which is about 1,800 players on average at any given hour of play; so around 27,000 daily players considering each player will be doing 1.5 hours to 2 hours of gameplay per day.
Anyway this number is quite low compared to the game's past. Let's hope Neverwinter manages to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Steam is not the main platform of the majority of mmo's.
mmo-population is a great website to see the average daily players

I know the mmo-population numbers, but they seem low to me. It's good to remember that they do an estimate, while I did several counts of all the maps, although only for the PC, and for the consoles I estimated half of the PC numbers. It could be that my mistake is in estimating console players.
Anyway, the decline in players over the years is notorious, and today it's just over 10% of what it was in its glory days.
It is evident that all online games lose players as they age, but Neverwinter has had a very sharp decline, especially in recent years, due to successive mistakes by Cryptic, which turned off a lot of players

Thats just for steam. The main platform is Arc. Also, there is Epic Games launcher so the number is higher than that.

Nerfs, removal of quests, removal of entire zones, making good number of the quests in the game pointless since they won't level up character or give decent rewards, changing mechanics of game multiple times regardless of player feedback, turning game into a mobile game more and more... I mean I think could probably go on if I tried, but I just don't care enough to.
