I've played both and honestly quit NW because it became too repetitive and end game was all about the gear. NW has too many paywalls, ESO does not. Base ESO game will give you hours of play time and can be played casually. NW requires you to put in like a job.
it depends, if you treat both games as pure f2p and you do not want to pay for anything, then you will miss out on a lot of content in eso, so you would have to invest in either a sub or buy storecurrency. (you can also try grinding gold and then trade it to a nice person that will gift you the equivalent amount of storecurrency in dlc content, but its not officially supported and you can get scammed)

if you dont mind paying, then you will potentially get cheaper away in eso if you think of playercharacter progressionsystem, since in eso you do not have to upgrade things with expensive items like motes and so on. but then again, in eso you can pretty much play endgame with basegame stuff,

but if you think of the actual quality of the game, ie production costs, content delivery, support and all the stuff a "good mmo" gets, then eso beats nw by a mile.
its just not an f2p game, so thats the difference.
i personally am not paying a single penny in nw since pretty much the beginning, and i am able to play in every piece of content. while in eso i have to pay if i want to play in the new stuff. but the new stuff over there is of a substantially higher quality, and quantity.
eso has 10x bigger zones and 10x more content, eso is way more of a real mmorpg compared to neverwinter , only having 10 people in 1 zone
The 1-50 in eso is SO MUCH its ridiculous! An enormous amount of content, you have so much class/ build variety and areas to explore! (Cos that's a thing in eso, unlike the practically on-rails NW).
Plus that's just with one faction, there are 3 that never overlap: you coud play all three factions and never visit the same location... and all for a measly box price! Dude, there is no comparison, like comparing McDonald's with Gaucho!

neverwinter does not have paywalls i've got everything through grinding :) u can get everything stop being lazy :)
coming back to this i was about to make another post about this but i see i already made one 2 years ago lol so mods PLEASE dont delete/lock this.
Anyways I see alot of people saying, bigger zones, more content, no paywall...but what if you dont really care about that stuff and only care for D&D lore...like right now im on a HUGE Baldurs Gate kick. ever since i played DA:Veilguard and uninstalled it went back to BG3 and just was blown away by everything (other than the terrible turn based combat, which ican deal with by using WeMod or FLiNG trainer) but I Reeeeeeeeeally love the Forgotten Worlds lore. Hows the lore in this game? is it legit? or just trash read boxes of texts like Lord of the Rings online or Matrix Online or World of Warcraft
Neverwinter a lot more like Diablo than it is ESO or BG3. Very action oriented, so faster paced, no random exploration for the sake of it and far less lore, no companion interactions, it's more like a fantasy "Looter shooter"... also the many, MANY microtransactions
