Need or Greed broken?
Hi everyone. I played Neverwinter Online for a month or so when it was in Beta and had lot of fun so I decided to try again this game in 2018. I see very little has changed but I can't understand the "need or greed" system right now: when you drop a "X rarity" or better item a pop up window should ask for a Need roll or a Greed roll, right? Nope. The game automatically rolls for need and it's just stupid, I dont want crap items I can't even use and I don't want to see a mage needing all my GSwords etc etc. I think I'm missing something or I'm doing something wrong, can anyone explain how to set the party loot as it's meant a real Need or Greed? Thanks in advance

Now the system has changed again - the default is auto-roll on stuff that drops, Now, some people are not happy with that as they do not have the inventory space, and would like to have a selectable loot threshold (basically so that they can in effect select "pass" on all the green crap.

We might get that later, but for now we just get the random junk. Just accept it, and either sell it for gold or convert to RPs, depending on what you need more. You need a ton of RPs and if you are into crafting, Gold is pretty valuable.

My main problem right now is the other party members receiving items that I could use while they can't and it seems I can't even trade with my premade party member because of reasons (?). I have to put Master Loot and give each drop manually, it's kinda annoying. I think it's weird that a 5 years old game doesn't have a proper loot system. I get that people were annoyed (I don't unterstand why tho) by the classic Need or Greed but they could just put a new default system and leave the old Need or Greed to be selected on the party panel and just pass on anything you don't want to loot.

Also, one of the things I liked the most was that you couldn't even Need an item that you couldn't equip. You had to Greed or Pass it. After seeing loads of ninjas on WoW I really appreciated that mechanic.

I dont know...I think it's a mess like it is right now and that it's a shame that you have to wait for a real loot system in a 5 years old game.

Well, at least I know how it works right now. Thank you very much =)

Well, we used to have what you described, in a dungeon you could set the threshold to ignore green, (so anyone could pick that up if they wanted), but you would get need/greed on blue,a dn yes, you could not need something you could not use.

Many players hated that system - simple because for many players, any item that dropped is just trash, and just having to stop to press "pass" caused an annoying delay.

The thing is, however, that while the occasional "useful" blue item may drop for players that are leveling up, no lvl 70 player will ever "need" a single one of the items that drop from random mobs - it's all just usable for gold or RPs.

So, yea....another case of the developers not thinking things through properly.

The system knows which drops are the rarest, it would be really easy to put a new "rarity" filter like Common, Uncommon, etc for those end game players looking for rare/special items and not ruining the leveling part.
Let's say that you have the option in your settings menu to set that filer (in your settings, not in the party options) and you are doing the Hocus Pocus Dungeon. You know that dungeon can drop the very rare SuperCoolWand and the ultra rare MegaAwesomeSword. Well, if you have that option set than you only Need or Greed for those items while all the rest is an automatic pass. If you don't have that option you will se the other >quality items and you'll need to manually Need/Greed/Pass them.
Otherwise you can put that in the party option and just have a free for all except for those ultra rare drops that have to manually selected in the N/G.
I'm sure a professional programmer/gamer could have thought a better system than this but I just spent 3 minutes thinking about that and I think it's still better than the actual one.

As you can understand my only concern is with the leveling part: I hope it won't be a pain because other people getting the drop that I need (drops that they just melt for RPs or sell for golds).

The reason people have not been very concerned about the issue is that useful drops from random mobs are pretty rare. Most of the items that drop are "green" ones and basically worthless. Yes, there is a small chance of a blue drop usable by your class, but in many cases it will have the wrong stats and at any rate, you probably would outlevel it with just a few hours of playing.

You don't really "need" anything beyond the green stuff you get while playing solo, anyhow....and you also have a (small) chance for random blue drops in solo play....and those will be all yours anyhow. Sell them on the AH if they are for other classes, and buy comparable ones for your class instead.
