I've even seen some level 80, that probably thought they could face tank anything, die in those dungeons/skirmishes over and over again.
And you'll also find more then enough challenges when you reach level 80 and start questing in the latest module areas.
Anyway, you can still find challenging content in game, but it's not just handed to you on a silver platter and you might have to look for it on your own.
For what it's worth it's always been pretty easy since I started 4 years or so ago. With life steal and over powered companions you could just stand right in front of bosses, in the red and not take any damage.
Update 16 at least made the bosses harder by nerfing the companions and removing life steal. The normal mob's are still easy though.
I've noticed quite a lot of MMOs doing this. For example when I recently played Tera Online again, I found that they had done this to the entire leveling process: nearly everything died in one hit, and it was basically just a sprint to max level. A few other MMOs I tried in the past few years had done the same thing.
I think the answer as to why MMOs do this is simple. For decades people have said "the game really starts when you hit max level". What this really means is that MMO players really get engaged with the game once they're doing the endgame stuff, as that's when developing your character starts to feel more substantial due to the types of encounters you'll be facing, and the fact that you're no longer repeatedly equipping and discarding 'throway gear' like you do while leveling up.
So, developers realized that what you need to do is get players to that part of the game more quickly. Hence, they 'streamline' the leveling process. Personally I would love if MMO devs just start us at this endgame phase and forget about the leveling process entirely. It keeps us from having to play this less fun 'pre-game', and it works out for them because it means they'll no longer have massive sections of content that become irrelevant to us once we hit max level.
They kept telling me that the game starts at 80 so I stuck it out and honestly, now I'm struggling.
It's tough at 80 playing anything solo and the Stronghold (not sure if this was there when you played) quest's are so numerous I usually don't have enough time to get everything done between Prof grinding, daily dungeons, invokes etc...
I personally agree it was more fun in WOW for instance, when you would run dungeons for good gear as you lvl'd and felt like you had more of a dungeon role.
All I'm saying is, it's easy to get to 80 and very tough at 80 once you get there... been struggling since I got to item lvl 13k and now just under 16k.... but now I'm enjoying it
hope it helps
However, at 80, the Avernus open world content will spank you when you first set foot there. You will die, terribly, and wonder why it's so absurdly hard.
As an example: my Rogue has a 25.1k item level, all defensive stats are capped, and certain mobs in the Avernus adventure zone can hit me for over 50k. If I'm not careful and leave them alive too long, it's entirely possible for me to die in just a few hits, considering I have 350k health.
That being said, one of the things they should overhaul in this game is the leveling process. I feel that it's a little TOO easy, however the game runs on a severely dated Engine.. so I'm sure there are things they want to do, but can't, due to technical limitations.
An example of that is this: in the upcoming mod, we're getting Mythic mounts. The original intention with Mythic mounts was to, obviously, make them faster than Legendary mounts. However, developers soon found out that upping the mount speed on them literally broke the Engine.. so the whole idea of them was scrapped until this upcoming mod.
Now, we'll have Mythic mounts with upgraded stats and powers, but their speed remains the same as current Legendary mounts (+140% speed) due to the dated Engine.
Personally, I would love to see content development halt for even an entire year if they could completely overhaul the Engine, or port it to Unreal Engine 4 or something similar.
On level? Cuz I find that a bit hard to believe.
I'm wrong about things I've seen with my own eyes in many games because you haven't seen those same things in 4 specific games? That's an interesting thought process you have. When someone moves an object behind a wall, do you think it stops existing?
Also, you don't need leveling to teach the player about the game. Tutorials don't need to last hours to teach you how to use a handful of abilities.
Sure, just ignore all the information that proves you wrong. That's one way to convince yourself you're right.
