As a quick guide:
1. Level as fast or slow as you like. Each zone has a "Bounty Master" that you can acquire gear from for whatever level bracket you're in.
2. At level 70, you get a small quest that awards you with a full set of L70 equipment for every slot. It's pretty decent stuff too! (The artifacts in particular you'll use for quite a while unless you have cash to spend on AD and buy better ones from the AH.)
3. 70 to 80 gets a little harder, but as long as you know what you're doing, it's not too bad.
4. At 80, you can start to slowly gear up with vendor stuff in Avernus by collecting Fallen Seals. Because these are the current-tier Seal, they do have a weekly cap of 400.
5. After this point, you can do things like Master Expeditions (solo or with a group; much faster with a group though), catch up on older content, etc. at whatever pace you want.
The only time you're going to HAVE to have a group is if you want to do anything in the highest-tier content, which is:
Dungeon: The Infernal Citadel (TIC or IC)
Trial/Raid: Tower of the Mad Mage
You will need to reach certain stat caps for either of those places, though.. and they can be a little difficult to reach if you aren't willing to pay money for ZEN, convert it to AD, and buy things off of the AH.
All in all, it's a game that you determine your pacing. Slow and steady, enjoy the stories, or rush to the level cap and get to that content.
I've played solo, and guildless, for the past.. 2 months? and it's been pretty fun so far. TIC and ToMM can be difficult, but as long as you know the mechanics groups are happy to have you.
Now, if you are OK with interacting with others, just not form groups, you have a few more possibilities:
What you cannot do, except in a "proper" group, is the highest-tier content, like ToMM and IC, which also gives you some of the highest ranked rewards.
So, the bottom line is basically that as a solo player you can enjoy 95% of the content - excluding the "end-game" dungeons, and obtain everything except some of the "best" gear in the game.
If fact I just hit lvl 80 yesterday and am only to the Icewind Dale area. So not only can you hit max solo, but you'll out level the zones as you do it.
My only extra stuff is 2 of the campaigns and even then only the beginning stuff and I generally skip most festivals as the lag in the city generally is a turn off for me.
Why would you even attempt ToMM in a random queue? That's just asking for failure.
To put things in to perspective for you: the other day I had a DEMOGORGON RTQ fail.
So queueing for ToMM with randoms is out of the question regardless of how long it takes.
Join PUG groups with reputable people. It's fun.
so try see it nice of them we all can play along way for free.
so it dont matter if there is high end game dungeon you cant because your gear is not good enough. its simple matter of understanding nothing is free in life. and i bet you had plenty of time to learn game and do you want to support it as paid customer. its that simple.
Eh, really? That's not a very good choice on their part to be honest.. I mean finding another person who needs them also wouldn't be hard, but.. campaigns seem to be mostly a solo thing.. that's an odd choice for them to make.
