Where to look up builds, gearing advice etc?
I've been playing this game on and off for a few years now (usually I get tired of having to restart the game after 2-3 because it gets laggy) and the last time I played was about a year ago. I used to read guides from a website that I can't find anymore and my old warlock build seems to be broken. I also checked Mmominds, but the guides there seem outdated - especially for warlock. So is there some website for builds and gearing or is it safe to go in blind these days?

take one of the builds you like from mmominds as base, and then ask in the class forum for help in adjusting it to the current module.

and see what else you can find on the NWO reddit pages.

might not help with the lagging directly, but at least you see when it starts and you can give the game some time to get back to a playable level.

and check if "on-demand patching" is still disabled in the game launcher options.
if not, do it and download the whole game before you continue playing.

gearing up is also pretty easy at the moment, all you've to do is get the character to level 70, pick up the "unwanted guest" quest from Lord Neverember, travel to Bavoria, collect a "Vistani Rewards" chest and get a whole set of armor/weapons slotted with rank 8 enchantments and 3 artifacts. and don't forget to claim the "Ravenloft Treasure Chest" through L/Claim Valuables/Promo tab either.

last but not least, should you find some unbound companions/mounts/equipment in your bank, check their worth in the AH before using them... depending on what you've banked in the past, you might be able to sell that stuff for a decent amount of AD now.

exchange your AD into ZEN, and then buy ViP without paying any real money for it. just wait for the next sale, i think the next one might be around the Summer Festival in two weeks, to get the most for your ZEN.

and welcome back to NWO.

Thank you, I'll have to check the class forum after I find a build that suits me. The gearing part sounds like a bit of a let down. I remembered this game as something where I had to work for gear :D But I guess I can still do it the hard way if I want to.

The lag isn't network related, it is more like a memeory leak. After a certain point loading screens start to take longer, then there is some input lag and soon fps will drop below 10 and stays there until I close the game. The game will run smotthly again until I reach that 2-3 hour mark and have to close the game again. Sad part is I even posted here about the issue back in 2014 and contacted support, but got no reply. After that I've bought a new PC and changed ISP - still had the same issues when I last played.

Don't worry, you'll still have to play your way through the game for the good stuff.

And don't think that the new area will be a cake-walk either, getting into Barovia is easy, but you're going to need a good portion of campaign plus some solid guild stronghold boons beside the gear/companions/mounts to get through the night in one piece.

About the other problem, did you try running the game on low settings at first for a while, and then increase one of the options at the time to see if something specific is causing the issue?

After that there's only "Force Verify" or the "Safe Mode" left in the game launcher options...

I tried all kinds of things to fix the issue back in 2014 and kept trying until 2016 when I got a new PC; game options, drivers, installing and uninstalling specific Windows updates, reinstalling Windows, installing the game to different drives, tweaking registry, messing with network settings etc. With the new PC I haven't bothered anymore. When I last played and asked about this in game I was told this was a known issue, but it isn't so common that the devs would spend time fixing it. Have to see if it has been fixed by accident when I have time to login later tonight :D

P.S. Managed to find some old notes I had written down about my build and it only needs minor adjustments to work again \o/

P.P.S. There might be typos, I need a nap.

SW has changed considerably, and the guides don't reflect that properly. I would suggest going to the SW section of the official forum and ask there for suggestions on up-to-date builds.

About the stronghold boons, are they really important? I have never been part of a guild because I play on and off so I'd most likely get kicked out and have to find a new guild when I come back. Or can I just make my own giuld and work on getting the boons on my own?

scroll down to the boons, and you see what you're missing out on... and while you can create your own guild rather easy, getting to any of these boons is an insane grind for a solo player.

just look for a guild, that has no problem with having a few "on and off" players in their roster, in there. or when you want to take another break from NWO, tell it to the guild leader and ask him if it's ok to join again when you come back.

Yikes, I guess I'll have to miss out on the boons for now :S The grind is a bit too much and it seems majority of guilds are US timezones and many EU guilds are only for specific language (like always) :D

Thank you again, it has been nice to explore Neverwinter after a long break and get some pointers along the way.

I am playing through Steam, where do you check to see if on de mand patching is on or off?
Wolverine Jul 2, 2018 @ 5:17pm
when you start the game through Steam it should open the game launcher, click on "Options" and make sure that in the "Patching" section "On-demand patching" isn't enabled.
