You can trade Astral Diamonds for ZEN at the Astral Diamond Exchange. If you play a lot on multiple characters it'll probably take you a month or two of saving up diamonds to get enough ZEN to buy a 110% mount

Well, no. You don't have to pay a dime. You simply play the game then trade in your AD and buy a good mount

What is the current AD to zen rate?

There have been two good free mounts recently. One was in the "Siege of Neverwinter" - if you participated every day you got enough tokens to get a free mount (epic griffon) that gave you the "Wanderer's Fortune" insignia bonus. Then, the summer event also gave a free mount - a purple snail with several good insignia bonuses, but again, you had to participate every day.

You can also get a mount during the winter festival event.

So, basically, there is no reason not to have at least one +110% speed bonus free epic mount.

Siege of Neverwinter is back at the end of this month, and i think the only requirement for participation is to be level 15.
Run a daily quest for 14 days, then exchange the tokens you got from the quest for the epic griffon mount.
And you have enough time to level up a few alt. characters up, if you want to, so that you can get an epic mount for them too.

There is that, of course. Anyhow...you can earn the griffon easily the next time the Siege event comes around (which is not too far off). Alternatively, you can spend some money to get an account-wide mount, claimable by every character. That's the difference - the free mounts can only be used by a single character, but the paid epic mounts form the Zen store can be claimed by every character you create,

I mean, I'm already level 70. I just expected more (in terms of mount drops or something). Sure I'll pay for stuff in a free game, but not 20 USD for a purple mount. Maybe I'm just naive about MMOs. Playing this to placate a friend. I'd rather be playing an Elder Scrolls game...

As mentioned above, there are seasonal events for mounts, which i personally prefer over some random drop chance...

Or get ViP, collect the daily lockbox keys, open lockboxes, sell the loot/packs you get directly over the AH for AD, exchange AD for ZEN, wait for the next sale or when you get a 15% discount coupon from the daily invoking bags, buy more ViP.

Rinse and repeat for steady stream of AD and/or ZEN into your pockets without having to spend a single Penny.

Getting your first round of ViP is going to take time and some effort, but after that it's pretty easy to maintain, not to mention all the ViP perks you're going to unlock in time.

Yea. I highly recommend VIP too. It can pretty much pay for itself if you log in least 20 days per month. I was lucky last month - got a legendary mount - considering whether to sell it (10.000.000 AD or so) or use it.

Anyhow, I have no problem paying for an account-wide mount - but then again, I have 16 alts.

This Game is Free to Play but that doesn't mean the company doesn't have expenses.

Mounts and Bags are the two main ways they encourage people to keep the servers up and running. If you expected to not feel pressured to buy at least one account wide mount and/or some bag space then I am sorry but that expectation will not be met.

Farming AD to buy Zen from others is an option but it will take time. However, dropp any expectation that you won't need to spend a lot of time to get a mount without breaking out a wallet as it really is the main convenience item that funds the game.
