This is clearly meant for kids who aren't competitive, playing with my competitive friends we found no use for the shield or bridge squirrel; only using tunnels to set up invincibility routes to the tree, and speed squirrels to grab the nuts and get out.
Whether it's 1 player or 8 against the tree, the goal is still 'capture 4 acorns in 3 minutes', we found that 3 competent squirrel players are more than enough to ensure the tree can never win by abusing the invincibility frames tunnel networks provide. The only 'counterplay' is to exploit the game, drawing a roomscale boundry and selecting a short spawn map with a ledge, then - as the tree - walking over to the squirrel spawn and picking them up on spawn to hurl them off the map. Preferably throwing them up high to lengthen how long until they die to stretch out their respawn timer.

Squirrels have too much power. A two man team who knows what they are doing can still beat an expert tree player.
