First off, the tunnel can only be used a limited amount of times before it disappears. There's currently no way for the tree to destroy the tunnels though.
If you want to have an area of effect attack when the squirrels are near you, you can leave one of the big boulders on the ground close to you and throw a small stump on it when you want it to explode (and hopefully knock out some of the squirrels).
It is tough when four people play Chunk, but keep in mind that they're quite slow and you can throw a lot of free stumps in a fast pace. Making the boulders explode might be a good strategy here too!
Sorry about the late response on this, but I do hope you've won some games as the tree since then! Feel free to let us know if you have any other feedback to share. We're really happy to receive it. :)
The tunnels are hard to defend. I wish there was some strategy against them. Throwing the big ball would split or weaken the tunnels.
I wish there was some way to reset the acorns after they are dropped. Would be nice if I hit them 3 times and they respond at the tree.
Does the tree only win if NO acorns are taken?
What is the best way to use the slime? Close to the tree? Close to their base?
Tunnels should have counter play, you're correct (perhaps flooding them with sap, or plugging the exit with a stump)
if you hit the acorn it will go up in the air, making it uncapturable for 1 second - this is only useful for preventing an immediate capture.
Tree wins if he can prevent at least ONE acorn from being captured over the 3 minute timer - so just goose-guard your favorite.
There's no good way to use slime/sap, it splatters too wide and can be tunneled under.
Sadly the only counterplay is an exploit - the game has no barrier for the tree player, so if you set up a roomscale boundry you can 'get up and walk' over to the squirrel spawn and just start grabbing and throwing players off the edge of the map on spawn.
