Does Inscryption use photos from my computer?
In Act 3, I understand that the 'CAPTIVE FILE' and 'LIBRARIAN' puzzles use files that I specifically select. However, I’m writing this because I’m a bit concerned about the possibility of random files from my computer, ones that I have not selected, being displayed on the screen.

1. In Act 3, there is a puzzle where you have to select images similar to a CAPTCHA verification. I got the feeling that the small pictures shown during this puzzle might be from my own computer. Is this correct?

2. If so, how does the game select these random images? Which directories does it access to pull these pictures?

3. When streaming this game, is there any privacy risk with these images being broadcasted? Can this lead to unintentional exposure of personal content?

Hey there,

1. Nope! In fact, they are historical images related to WW2!
2. (Not taken from your computer)
3. One of the boss fights in Act 3 asks you to go through your hard drive to upload files. This is the only part of the game that specifically "reveals" the content on your drive. The boss itself will ask you whether people are watching; this is a feature added for streamers to prevent any sort of "accidents".

Inscryption does not collect any sort of data from your computer. Almost every game has access to your registry, Steam friends list, etc. Daniel's games often utilize this feature as a part of the narrative (done similarly in Pony Island where people from your Steam friend list message you). Rest assured, this isn't anything that breaches your privacy or security!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much for your response!
One more question regarding the Steam friends list: Is there a way to prevent the game from accessing or using my friends list without removing any friends? I'd like to ensure that part of the list isn't used within the game, if possible.

To my knowledge, there is currently no way to prevent the game from accessing your friend list. :lunar2019piginablanket:

A kind of a side note, if you want a scary game that takes full advantage of what it has access too, try Kinito Pet. It's similar to Pony Island I guess, but it's best if you go in as blind as possible.
