Stuck in Act 3

I've killed two of the bosses, but have checked every tile/room in Act 3 I have access to and can't figure out what I'm supposed to do next...and the guides available don't seem to help. I'm in Western Utopia and the locked gate to the north says "to unlock this gate you must venture south". The room to the south says "I unlocked the door. It's floating above the strange bridge thing." And also, "That piece over in the smelter room, walk over and get it". First, I have no idea what is considered the smelter room...and second, I have no idea what the strange bridge thing is to find the unlocked door. There are one or two doors on this level that remain locked. I've spent a couple of hours checking every conceivable tile/room I can access and have found nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sometimes the way to progress is not inside the game board. A bit like the cabin in the first act you will eventually be allowed to get up and explore, and are prompted to do so when asked to go retrieve something from the smelter room. You have to stand up from the game board for some sections.
