I love StS, will I like this game? and does this game offer replayability like StS?
Just a few concerns before I make the purchase

The main story is not designed to be continually replayable as it has a plot.

However, in the beta branch there is currently Kaycee's Mod, an official free add-on to the game, which does indeed offer replayabiity in the same was StS does. Note it is not an actual Mod, it is a full-on mode of the game made by the same 1 dev that made the rest, just stylized as a "Mod" for story purposes. Instead of 20 difficulty levels, there are a variety of challenge toggles to turn on, things like "have 1 less item slot" (comparable to potions in STS but stronger) and "lose the ability to reroll card choices". This gives a pretty good variety in the kind of runs you can do, through customizing which of the challenges you want to toggle on and off. The mode is not finished yet, but is in a very playable state and you can opt in at any time (though it is highly recommended to do the story first).

Currently I wouldn't call it quite as good for replayability as StS, solely because StS is the king. That said, if you're a fan of card games there is a reasonable likelyhood you will love this game, as many who do end up doing.

so there is no accession from a0-a20 like StS instead I have to manually toggle challenges to customize my runs? sound like a pain tbh. I prefer how StS done, just choose the difficulty and play, no need to tinker with game setting

It's beneficial in that you have a bit more control. Like, in StS "Shops cost more" is Ascension 16, so if your sweet spot is Ascension 12 or so, you won't usually get to play with shops costing more even if you think shops are OP. With Inscryption, someone that wouldn't want it harder than Ascension 12 can still toggle 13-20 sometimes while disabling earlier modifiers, and have more variety in the way runs are.
It's not that complicated either. When you click "New Run", you enter a screen where you click your starter deck, and it instantly shows the unlocked difficulty toggles (up to 14 of them currently) you can click to turn on. It's only a few seconds total from clicking "New Run" to actually playing if you know which challenges you like, they all use simple graphics depicting what they are and you'll quickly learn which ones you like and which you don't after earning them. Upon finishing a run there is a re-run button so you don't need to tweak it again.

i dont mean the toggle challenges buttons is complicated but rather a hassle, I like things streamlined when starting a run, just click start and play, the complication/variation should be in the game not in the selection screen, its just my preference.

I will keep an eye out for this game for when the kacey mod is fully finished and well balanced to see if I will play it

It's a much more streamlined version of StS's "custom mode" as the default mode, if that comparison helps. I figured I might as well check, If you play at base difficulty, it is a total of 3 clicks after launching the game to being in a run, with some extra clicks on toggles if you want it harder.

Do come back and check when the next Steam Sale hits, it should be fully finished by then i would hope.
