However, in the beta branch there is currently Kaycee's Mod, an official free add-on to the game, which does indeed offer replayabiity in the same was StS does. Note it is not an actual Mod, it is a full-on mode of the game made by the same 1 dev that made the rest, just stylized as a "Mod" for story purposes. Instead of 20 difficulty levels, there are a variety of challenge toggles to turn on, things like "have 1 less item slot" (comparable to potions in STS but stronger) and "lose the ability to reroll card choices". This gives a pretty good variety in the kind of runs you can do, through customizing which of the challenges you want to toggle on and off. The mode is not finished yet, but is in a very playable state and you can opt in at any time (though it is highly recommended to do the story first).
Currently I wouldn't call it quite as good for replayability as StS, solely because StS is the king. That said, if you're a fan of card games there is a reasonable likelyhood you will love this game, as many who do end up doing.
It's not that complicated either. When you click "New Run", you enter a screen where you click your starter deck, and it instantly shows the unlocked difficulty toggles (up to 14 of them currently) you can click to turn on. It's only a few seconds total from clicking "New Run" to actually playing if you know which challenges you like, they all use simple graphics depicting what they are and you'll quickly learn which ones you like and which you don't after earning them. Upon finishing a run there is a re-run button so you don't need to tweak it again.
I will keep an eye out for this game for when the kacey mod is fully finished and well balanced to see if I will play it
Do come back and check when the next Steam Sale hits, it should be fully finished by then i would hope.
