Failing that, you /should/ eventually get a cutscene (after losing several times - not sure how many) that lets you skip to puzzle 3, and get the card without needing to do the other two puzzles.
Good luck (genuinely)!
- Have you made it to a boss yet with both candles intact? If so, you know what the smoke from your candle does... well, snuffing that candle and capturing the smoke from it empowers that card. It's not a huge difference, but can mean a free point of extra damage and it makes that card just a bit more useful all around.
- You definitely want to get those bottom drawers open; and make sure you also complete the puzzle on the wall (behind you, near the safe) -- each of the rewards will give you a meaningful advancement. One of those drawers contains arguably the most broken thing you'll encounter in the cabin and once you have that to play with, you no longer have to worry about winning fights; you start to focus instead on what do I want to use this fight to achieve for later in the run? because winning the fight will be basically a foregone conclusion. The sooner you get it, the more powerful you become (although there is still an RNG element... but again, once you have the basic thing unlocked you can use it to make it much easier/borderline trivial to get chances to further improve the effect.)
Edit- Never mind worked it out.
