Do you mean retrying the battle(s) or the card decks?
I've been trying again. A couple more questions.
I almost feel like I'm missing a game mechanic. They seem to have an infinite # of cards to play but I am limited, only getting one extra card each turn.
Are there areas where I can find more decks or foils? I've been everywhere I am allowed several times and can't find any.
I also need some gems for some of the cards and haven't found any of them.
edit: the thing about gem cards is also in the tower of magnificus (Mandela effect)
Adding in some beast cards is a solid strategy -- use the free/really cheap bone cards as sacrifices, gaining more bones back in the process! Remember also that your energy bar (the battery thing) fills up for free over time; it's mostly used with the robot deck but each deck does have a card (or at least one) that interacts with the energy mechanics.
When playing with the bone deck, the hammer becomes an important tool -- intentionally destroying (not sacrificing -- although that will also work and is preferable, of course you can only do it when you have something to play that requires sacrifices) your creatures can be used to power up certain cards, e.g. the Bone Pile; or simply for "bone farming" to allow you to play bigger creatures.
Foils = teeth, and you get them the same way. It's difficult early on, but you can and should try to "take control" of the fight and go for overkill damage -- more foils = more card packs = more strategies open up. Once you get out of Grimora's dungeon and have access to the tower, you'll be able to use the dummy as others have mentioned; but that's far from the only way to gain foils.
