I more meant is it like in slay the spire, you need to keep on playing to unlock more/better cards? is there any other way to enhance your ability to win, or make your deck stronger?
There are a couple puzzles around that may help (if you don't have the knife or the wooden head yet, those are things you could look around for) but I don't think there is much else that will make a huge difference at your point. You can beat it just fine within your first few runs, so at your point you can definitely do it, just down to execution and a bit of luck. There are several really strong items, and combining the runes of certain cards makes them really silly. At worst, you always have the chance to make OP death cards and hope for those to show up and carry you.
Hi! The Angler can be a tricky boss with its hook powers and buckets.
My strategy for beating him would be overwhelming him with powerful cards at the start (before his hooks appear) or getting him to hook squirrels instead (he hooks your last put down card).
The second phase can easily be beat if you have cards with high power. since the sharks don't defend!
* He always hook a card every other turn. He always hook last placed card. If he has a card opposing the card he hook - it will be moved into his back row. Meaning that placing squirrel when he about to hook across his birds will rend that bird harmless - squirrel don't attack and bird cannot attack from the back row.
* When you put out his first candle he will place buckets in front of all your cards. Buckets will die from one hit and transform into really nasty sharks. But buckets don't have "mighty leap". So, you will want to keep cards in your hand before the second stage and only place enough to beat the first stage. If you can manage to do that with just 1 or 2 cards - second stage will become much easier. Or you can try to get a deck of fliers, they will ignore buckets completely. Of course you can combine those approaches.
* later on you will unlock carver event, where you can get a trait to your squirrels. That is where it can become stupid easy if you unlock something like "unkillable", "worthy sacrifice" and others. Once, I get "fledgling" and beat a few fights with squirrels alone. Not boss though, this trait is not that good, just fun.
