Can't get started: Can't play a stoat after playing squirrel in tutorial

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tried running as administrator. Just bought the game yesterday. Quickly figured out I have to click "continue game" rather than start new game. Then, the monster in the backdark with red eyes offers to teach me how to play. Tells me to play the squirrel card, which I do. So far so good. But then the text at the top of the screen tells me to now play the stoat card. There's a small flashing box over to the right with an S in it, which I assume means stoat, right under a non-flashing small box with a W in it, which I assume means wolf. But no matter how many times I try to click on the flashing S, nothing happens. No other cards are visible or become visible no matter where I put the cursor. Please help!

Those are keyboard commands. Type S.

I don't know why they did it that way. It's the only place where that happens as far as I can recall.

S and W don't stand for Stoat and Wolf, though I can see why you'd think that. They are more related to the AWSD keyboard navigation scheme. You'll use those a lot when examining the game and room.

Thanks! I stumbled upon that realization about a half hour after posting this question, and before seeing your reply. I'm pretty new to PC gaming, so it didn't dawn on me. I had been pressing random keys to make something happen, but not the S. Enjoying the game once I got past that "glitch."
