The game keeps giving me completely unwinnable hands.
I'm not talking about the times where the game obviously cheats for the sake of progression. Just a regular card battle and the RNG hand that I'm given to start the match (which doesn't change at all if you save scum) is completely unwinnable no matter what combination of cards you try. Which causes you to fail, which causes you to lose your progress on the board and the cards.

Progress should never be RNG based, I don't care if it's a card game. I can't progress to see story/puzzles if the game keeps giving me completely trash hands. The AI has all airborne high damage cards that can straight up end the match in a single turn without having to follow sacrifice rules, and I'm over here struggling just to have enough cards I can sacrifice to get literally anything on the board that can take down enough cards to just not die after a single turn. It was fun up until this point, but I don't know how I'm supposed to progress with this cheesy BS.

I can't tell if you two are memeing or if you haven't seen KM yet.

Moustache was being serious. I was making a joke.

I didn't keep count, but I'd say it took me 10 or so deaths before I was able to beat the first Act. I got lucky with the totem that gave each of my squirrels +3 blood when sacrificed, so I was able to load up my deck with high-blood cards and sacrifice the rest. I also didn't kill the mule when facing off against the prospector since that would have just added more mediocre cards.

I don't know if the OP has given up yet or not, but to those struggling: it absolutely will take a few tries before you'll be knowledgeable enough to know how to play the hand you're dealt AND the RNG gods have given you enough boons.

I ALMOST was able to beat it 7 or so deaths in when I got the +4 bones glyph on my squirrels and loaded up my deck with bone cards, but died against the Trapper (my first time making it to him).

FYI: It is literally impossible to get to Act 2 without dying a number of times. The game will actually refuse to spawn the necessary items in no death runs.

Not that this should stop you from making OP one-turn kills.

Deckbuilding roguelikes are hard, and sometimes it can be hard to even identify where you went wrong since the littlest decisions can snowball later on. If you can record a run and show us what you're doing, I bet people can give you more targeted advice.
Not a single hand. It happens quite often, once I'm about midway through the wetlands. I'll get given every bad card that I have no idea how I'm supposed to avoid picking up, and even good cards, like ant cards, will be given to me in a combination that makes them all weak.

If every bad hand is somehow entirely my fault and not RNG screwing me over repeatedly, then it's deck bloat. I'd really like to know how I'm expected to not have bad cards when the game just repeatedly gives them to me. You don't have any control over what the game offers you, or gives you when you pick from one of the more random nodes.

lets talk about it case by case basic, show us few example of bad RNG of your hand and entire decks.
let us judge for you did you make a bad deck by including too many bad cards, or it is just bad RNG.
Or maybe the hands aren't even that bad and you're just playing them wrong. It's easy to get stuck in a downwards spiral throwing away creatures to block everything when sometimes you need to tank a hit or two to set up.

If you're at a point where the game is "obviously cheating" by sending an army of flying bears at you, you're supposed to lose at that point - it's a story based game as much as anything else, so sometimes you just have to suck it up and lose in order to progress. It's meant to be impossible, but it only happens once per boss at most.

Git gud issue. You can easily win 100% of the runs no matter what starting from run 3.

I also had RNG issues with this game. I even had my son coaching over my shoulder telling me "Wow... that doesn't normally happen.."

I dropped the game and regret buying it.

Get the bees, that will help a lot.
Choose the right totems.
Get the clover so you can reroll card offers.
Kill the people around the campfire with a snake or ringworm & upgrade your cards to the max once they're dead.
And just keep trying to create better Death cards. Every time you die you have an opportunity to make your next run easier.
Believe me, I had a very similar experience on my playthrough and it was frustrating but worth it. Just enjoy the process.
Also use the mycologists well :)

It's true, it doesn't matter how much I liked the game. Many times it gives you a crap deck and crap cards and even if you level them up you just cannot win until the lucky rng is on your side, which doesn't feel satisfactory but complete crap as your cards. And KM? a joke.

The game is great but is not perfect.

I'll repeat - git gud issue. Vanilla game runs can be done 100% of the time.

You always start out with a one blood cost card. Get that card strong and get rid of any other one cost and you win every time instantly

If you draw bad hands constantly you are making a bad deck. Not trying to be a jerk but it really is as simple as that. I play a lot of these games but won most of the earlier kaycee mod challenges back to back and they are much harder than act 1 and no chance I'm just that lucky.

As far as real advice goes the best tip I can give you is to try and make a smaller deck. There are plenty of broken win conditions too. Also try to build to beat the boss, not make a deck.
