For phase 1, purposefully kill all the traps and let your weaker/less useful units die to them to generate pelts. Obviously if you're running out of units then you need to be getting more units or making use of things like Cockroach to have a repeatable unit.
For phase 2, if you got all the pelts from phase 1 you can just buy up his whole frontline immediately and attack into his empty board with whatever you beat phase 1 with, which usually is enough to just end the fight before you even have to engage his back row of units.
only angler is remotely hard tbh
Anyway, the best way to handle the Trapper is to throw your weaker, more expendable units into his traps. Everything killed by those gives you a pelt, which you can use to steal his (their?) cards when you knock him into his second form. Unkillable critters are nice (cockroach and such), but not required.
The ringworm trick is good, but very random.
If you're feeling really stuck, stop and take a look around the cabin. Solving the various puzzles (check the painting and chest and clock) and messing with the other mess-withable things can unlock some buffs that will help get you through.
You'll get that scrub-ass Trapper. Ya just gotta figure out his tricks, and that'll be that.
This is just a DPS check, you must kill him immediately before the sharks spawn.
1) at the beginning you just need to kill the first lane of crocodile things and they transform into attack-less traps.
2) Then, kill one or more of the traps with your worst unit, as it will die. You can now hit the boss directly. Behind the lane of traps come normal enemies, so it should be no problem.
3) When the traps give you pelts, you save those for Phase 2.
4) At the beginning of phase 2, you just need to buy off of him his first lane of enemies with four pelts, then kill him with your creatures already on the field, as he is defenseless.
1. At the beginning of the fight, he will have robotic frogs, if you see this, use your weaker cards that can survive a turn against it. Why? Because after the robot frog dies, it drops a trap that will kill anything in-front of it that attacks. We use a weaker card here to save your best cards! (Ps. Flying cards will still get bit by the traps, so watch out)
2. To make the second phase easier, I'd get all of the wolf pelts from him from his traps. Then for the important part.
3. After having placed your best cards down, when the Trapper transitions to phase 2; buy the cards that are in-front of your best cards! If you've done it right, and have the great cards on board. Surely you should be able to wipe him out in one or two turns; if not in two, buy the cards behind it.
Goodluck out there!
As for your death cards - try to have a run where you have a low or no cost card in your hand (e.g. pelt), a high hp+dmg card (e.g. Grizzly or other), and a card with touch of death / airborne / bi or tri strike sigil on it. Using those you and careful use of the campfires (1-2 turns at each) should be able to create an i-win deathcard that will eventually help to carry you through act 1.
You also might want to finish up the puzzles around the hut and get 2 items before aiming for that full act 1 clear (keeping spoilers to a minimum - camera roll and ring are 2 items you will want before facing boss after Trapper).
What’s funny is there is a chance they don’t eat it. Happened to me one time with health so I had a maxed ring worm at 0/9.
fast strategy is clear one trap, get one pelt and one shot him with a card that has at least 5 damage. then use your pelt to clear the space right in front of your strong card. you will hit him for 5 damage or more and instantly win
slow strategy is to use weak creatures to kill the traps. since he summons very few creatures in phase 1, you can draw almost every single card in your deck by taking it slow. you will get 5 pelts this way. use those on phase 2 however you like. now you can summon whatever creatures you want.
if you are losing on the trapper / trader boss, it is probably because you are not strong enough to one shot him and you and not taking your time to be able to summon a ton of creatures on you side of the field
I basically ended up using the stall strategy because I had way too many cards to throw away at him and it just worked out. Squirrel totem that gives them summon ants causes some strange gameplay. mainly that all you do is draw squirrels until the enemy dies
