What part are you struggling on? Phase 1 or phase 2?

For phase 1, purposefully kill all the traps and let your weaker/less useful units die to them to generate pelts. Obviously if you're running out of units then you need to be getting more units or making use of things like Cockroach to have a repeatable unit.

For phase 2, if you got all the pelts from phase 1 you can just buy up his whole frontline immediately and attack into his empty board with whatever you beat phase 1 with, which usually is enough to just end the fight before you even have to engage his back row of units.

If you go into the fight with pelts and draw them they also count.

trapper is pathetically easy, if you made it that far you should have more than enough deck power to roll him, he also has the least annoying 'gimmick' and one that literally is guaranteed to massively help you

only angler is remotely hard tbh

Feed a ring worm to the men around the fire in the first stage. It will kill them and then you get unlimited upgrades whenever you visit the campfire. That will help you power up your cards to overkill the matches getting extra teeth. Then get pelts and use those to rob the trapper in round two. If you can’t beat the trapper easily you aren’t going to beat the next boss which is harder. So tweaking the trapper you would need to tweak the rest of the game. Not going to happen.

Dude, could you even try to be decent? You gave no advice and helped no one. If you're gonna be an ass, at least be a useful ass.

Anyway, the best way to handle the Trapper is to throw your weaker, more expendable units into his traps. Everything killed by those gives you a pelt, which you can use to steal his (their?) cards when you knock him into his second form. Unkillable critters are nice (cockroach and such), but not required.
The ringworm trick is good, but very random.
If you're feeling really stuck, stop and take a look around the cabin. Solving the various puzzles (check the painting and chest and clock) and messing with the other mess-withable things can unlock some buffs that will help get you through.

You'll get that scrub-ass Trapper. Ya just gotta figure out his tricks, and that'll be that.

This is just a DPS check, you must kill him immediately before the sharks spawn.

It's really simple, once you understand the key to phase 2:
1) at the beginning you just need to kill the first lane of crocodile things and they transform into attack-less traps.
2) Then, kill one or more of the traps with your worst unit, as it will die. You can now hit the boss directly. Behind the lane of traps come normal enemies, so it should be no problem.
3) When the traps give you pelts, you save those for Phase 2.
4) At the beginning of phase 2, you just need to buy off of him his first lane of enemies with four pelts, then kill him with your creatures already on the field, as he is defenseless.

:goobert: Without reading any of the comments above or below, I will give you some tips.

1. At the beginning of the fight, he will have robotic frogs, if you see this, use your weaker cards that can survive a turn against it. Why? Because after the robot frog dies, it drops a trap that will kill anything in-front of it that attacks. We use a weaker card here to save your best cards! (Ps. Flying cards will still get bit by the traps, so watch out)
2. To make the second phase easier, I'd get all of the wolf pelts from him from his traps. Then for the important part.
3. After having placed your best cards down, when the Trapper transitions to phase 2; buy the cards that are in-front of your best cards! If you've done it right, and have the great cards on board. Surely you should be able to wipe him out in one or two turns; if not in two, buy the cards behind it.

Goodluck out there! :p03:

If you spend enough time playing act 1, dying and creating death cards, then eventually you will start drawing them in your later attempts. When this happens then you can largely brute force your way through most of the act 1 bosses by wiping them out in each phase with a single attack (though for trapper boss you will still want several pelts in your deck going in so that in phase 2 you can clear a path to him, unless you have airborne on your card already).

As for your death cards - try to have a run where you have a low or no cost card in your hand (e.g. pelt), a high hp+dmg card (e.g. Grizzly or other), and a card with touch of death / airborne / bi or tri strike sigil on it. Using those you and careful use of the campfires (1-2 turns at each) should be able to create an i-win deathcard that will eventually help to carry you through act 1.

You also might want to finish up the puzzles around the hut and get 2 items before aiming for that full act 1 clear (keeping spoilers to a minimum - camera roll and ring are 2 items you will want before facing boss after Trapper).

Honestly you can reach up to the trapper so easily and with such scuffed decks that being able to make it to him doesn't mean your team is particularly good. He is also grossly more difficult than the other imo. I never even got past his first phase in almost 10 tries, then I went in with a stupid squirrel totem build and hit his second phase for the first time and it just melted away and proceeded to beat the game with squirrels :I

Wow I wish I knew about the ringworm trick for my playthrough! The campfire was my favorite stop on the map because of the ability to create absolute steamrollers so I'll definitely be using that next time.

What’s funny is there is a chance they don’t eat it. Happened to me one time with health so I had a maxed ring worm at 0/9. :steamsalty:

there are two strategies to beat the trapper / trader

fast strategy is clear one trap, get one pelt and one shot him with a card that has at least 5 damage. then use your pelt to clear the space right in front of your strong card. you will hit him for 5 damage or more and instantly win

slow strategy is to use weak creatures to kill the traps. since he summons very few creatures in phase 1, you can draw almost every single card in your deck by taking it slow. you will get 5 pelts this way. use those on phase 2 however you like. now you can summon whatever creatures you want.

if you are losing on the trapper / trader boss, it is probably because you are not strong enough to one shot him and you and not taking your time to be able to summon a ton of creatures on you side of the field
Leviathan Jan 8, 2022 @ 12:44pm
It depends. I usually prepare my cards so that I have one or two very strong cards, and prepare the fight so that I can use those cards in the second phase. Getting pelts in the first one is optional since you're given one for free but it's always nice to get some. When given the chance, summon the strong card and end the first phase. The mantis or mantis king seal also works well since you can destroy the traps without them killing your strong card. When the second phase starts you buy as many possible cards from the column of your strong card (both if possible) and then if your card has 5 attack or more you win. If the card has less than 5 attack, even if your priority is still having that column empty, you can use whatever you can to protect yourself for the two turns you need to win so if you calculate that the enemy counterattack will be very strong you can buy the most troublesome cards instead.

I basically ended up using the stall strategy because I had way too many cards to throw away at him and it just worked out. Squirrel totem that gives them summon ants causes some strange gameplay. mainly that all you do is draw squirrels until the enemy dies
