For any other deck, I would recommend mix and match to get the cards you want and to get a mix of costs (energy, blood, and bone). Wizard cards just don't seem to jive with other decks.
Someone else might be able to give you worthwhile advice to power through using the Wizard deck. Since you haven't beat either of the first two bosses, I'd recommend restarting Act 2. You aren't losing much progress and can start with a selection of cards that plays together better.
If you were able to beat either of the first two bosses, there is an opportunity to grind for foils in the Wizard tower and buy up plenty of cards.
I think that it 'could be playable', but compared to the other decks it feels more challenging to win with.
I had great performance by selecting the Beast deck (Leshy). There are several free/cheap cards from the Death and Robot decks that make superior sacrifices over squirrels.
For example, most beast cards take sacrifices. But you can play the robo cards for energy, and then sacrifice those to play the decent beast cards. As you're sacrificing, you're also generating bones. The mage cards on the other hand, need very specific resources which can be difficult with your limited field. And most of them don't have stats that come close to the more powerful cards in other decks.
And if you want a somewhat broken strategy, you can play Act I and boost the Ouroboros card as much as possible (it keeps it's stats). Then in Act II, you can purchase this card from the beast trader. Then use it's absurd stats to easily beat people and get lots and lots of foils.
Ouroboros retains its stat line for the entire game. Act 2 gives you amazing opportunity to really soup it up. Once you have beaten one of Leshy or Grimora, you can access the wizard tower. At that point, you can always pick a fight with the training dummy on the second floor. Any fight will do, but this one is always available and poses no threat.
To abuse Ouroboros, you can set up an infinite loop. The simplest way to do this is to play two Cats or a Pharaoh's Pets for infinite sacrifices to keep playing and breaking Ouroboros. To speed up the process, I'd recommend a Necromancer to double your Ouroboros deaths.
