Angler impossible mode?

so, i was playing and got to the angler, not bad and got through the first phase.... but then he says "to fast to soon" and proceeds to fill all 8 of his slots grizzlys all with fly protection with him and all his cards getting red eyes.... obvs i died and made a death card but im curious, others say they didnt have that second phase and the only difference i could find was that i made it to him before making my first death card.... if possible, could someone beat him when he goes crazy attack mode? or is this a "forced loss" scenario for story progression?

its attempting to force you to lose because you haven't got all the lore and game mechanics yet. You aren't really meant to win when he fills the spaces with bears lol I had it happen too. after enough deaths you get the ACTUAL phase 2 instead of "LOL BEARS" this happens with the trapper too if you do it too soon it just skips their original 2nd phase and gives you bears.

YOU CAN win there is video proof but nothing really changes. Next run on treats it as if you died in the last run instead of winning,

The Stoat tells you the guy cheats. You weren't failing early being your first game so he resorted to that. Just so that he can explain you Bone tokens and Deathcards.

There are ways to pass those "enrage" blocks, but you either need specific setups or items. He will only do that once more on the boss after Angler if you don't die before that.

Its not that hard to beat the impossible mode. You just need a "scissor" item to snip the grizzly in front of your Mothman. Or any card that would beat him in 1 round.
What happens is that his eyes stay red. I can't really find anything secret about it otherwise.

I was trying to find someone who did this, and found this guy who managed to beat the entire map on his first run with zero death's and the only puzzle he solved was putting 11 on the clock, which he said he found purely by trial and error in the demo.

funnily enough, on my actual first run ever, i managed to beat these guys, i got the larvae card. and managed to use it, somehow and skip the enemys turn, maybe once or twice, dont remember, and won it. gotta admit, pretty proud of that. but i cant for the life of me see what ive done wrong.

Instead, I find it charming that a new player discovers the game and goes through it. Specially with Pony Island 2 coming out soon!
