Unbeatable?
I've been seeing a lot of people saying stuff about multiple acts or whatever and i'm suprised anyone's been able to beat anything. I find trying to play so frustrating trying to manage the extremely un-player sided sacrifice costs.

I can't ever use something actually strong or useful since I'll lose by the time i get enough on the board to make 1. Yet the game can throw those willy nilly.

I just don't see the fun in this with how impossible it seems to be to win, let alone even feel like I'm close to so. Is there something I'm just not getting with the costs or is it supposed to be this unmanagable?

The game expects you to abuse mechanics. Craft very powerful, low-cost Deathcards. combine and buff strong cards like Mantis God, use overpowered Squirrel Totems. High sacrifice costs take too long to get going and aren't really worth even putting in your deck.

edit: you can end most battles, even bosses, in 3 or fewer turns if you play right and have a little bit of luck.

It's a roguelike card game that requires multiple plays to get stronger over time.

Oh, I didn't think the game would hinge on abusing those mechanics and requiring so much before the chance to win. That's... a bit disappointing if that's all there is to the game/ to have fun.

Act 1 is just a small part of the game. once you move on to the next part, it adds a lot more variety, but most people here are trying to avoid spoiling things for people :) Stick with it

You absolutely do not need unlocks to "beat" the game, but they do make it significantly easier.

It's an introduction to some of the other mechanics in the game.

Losing a single card match isn't a big deal.

Thats not even the bulk of the game.

The game is quite reasonable outside of some scripted segments. I feel like I lost to bad RNG only a handful of times. Vast majority of the time where I died I realized I could have done something better.

You have to consider sometimes aggression can be the best defence since dealing damage effectively heals you. Finding a good balance of killing opponents creatures for free and also focusing on dealing damage aggressively should be plenty to get through the first chapter. The extra upgrades and OP creature combinations are there as well if you get really stuck.

Yea, you learn that it kind of plays on card games having a meta of abusing. I gave the "Child 13" the ability to clone a copy to hand and promptly beat every fight.
As a Yugioh novice I caught on real quick to some of the abuse potential throughout the game.

You dont really need op things to win but they are there if you need some help. Look around the cabin and you will find some helpful stuff surely.

But even without op things a general rule is that 2 cost cards by themselves are not that great, but you can make any card amazing if you use campfires, and the sacrifice stones well.

yeah you can be pretty busted with crafted cards i actually killed one "boosted" boss quite easily (so i skipped a good part of act 1) and beated the big boss with that same card
Slamdarius Oct 23, 2021 @ 7:07pm
Squirrels are the key. You need to get the totem that buffs them. The first Act is a cakewalk after that.

Alrighty, gave it more a chance, Y'all are right! There was a certain meta i didn't see about the game as well as mechanics like totems and such not introduced yet that made the game feel way more an even playing field!

Though i am just a little concerned how brutal it still felt to try to get to that point, Glad the one that suggested sticking with it and perservering said so!

Thank you all.

i felt that way too. the main thing is learn what kind of playstyle fits you best. fast and cheap at the cost of health and defense? lots of defense and high health cards at the cost of speed and attack. there are multiple playstyles that work but require multiple runs to give you access to better and better items, cards, and rooms. its grindy at first but trust me you will eventually get access to powerful enough cards and items to brute force your way through the boss.
