screen tearing with frame generation
I have tried everything but it seems impossible to enable vsync and frame generation together.

With frame gen on I can get good fps (90-120) but the screen tearing ruins it. anytime i move or look around.

If I turn frame gen off and enable vsync I can get around 55-80 fps with 0 screen tearing.

I understand that with frame gen on you cannot enable in game vysnc. I have seen many videos and forum posts saying to enable vsync in nvidea control panel. I have done this along with capping the fps at 117 (3 fps below my monitors max refresh rate). But it does not seem to do anything. I have also enabled and ensured gsync is active.

has anyone been able to use frame gen with vsync enabled?

I am kind of convinced at this stage that frame gen is just really bad tech. Worries me that the new GPUs seem to be leaning into the tech more rather than giving better actual performance.

I am using a 4090 with an i9 14900k. LG C3 monitor with gsync. RUIPRO 8k high speed active optical HDMI cable.

Why aren't you using display port instead of hdmi?
HDMI you have should be perfectly fine. All the steps done look to be correct. I suggest removing the frame limit in the NVIDIA control panel settings and ensure NVIDIA reflex is enabled, since this should help with fps limits. Try it with just enabled, or + boost and see what works best for your system.

What is wrong with a HDMI cable? I usually use a display cable for my monitors but I like to play cyberpunk on a big TV which means using a long cable and I use HDMI to get sound through the TV as well.

The cable is like the best you can buy, although its 6m long it has been tested and runs perfectly for what I need it. (I watched a yt video of a guy testing it XD)

There's nothing wrong with hdmi but depending on what resolutions you use it might matter. DP has a much higher bandwidth.

first off thanks for this suggestion. this setting is a little weird...

So in game the setting is called "Nvidia Reflex Low Latency" and it's locked (but kind of greyed out) to the "On" setting with frame gen on.

There is no setting in the Nvidia control panel called "Nvidia Reflex Low Latency"

There is a setting called just "Low Latency Mode". It can be set to off, on or ultra.

With the control panel low latency mode set to off, the in game setting is still locked ON. which is confusing. I wonder if they are the same thing or not?

With frame gen off it lets me adjust the "Nvidia Reflex Low Latency" setting. from off to on or on + boost. But I want to use frame gen. Just without screen tearing.

So with frame gen on, vsync on in Nvidia control panel and low latency mode in the control panel set to either on or ultra. I still get bad screen tearing. I removed the frame rate limit in the Nvidia control panel as you mentioned.

The vsync seems to be capping the frame rate at 120 as it should but man the screen tearing is so bad with this frame gen on.

Well F, guess imma go spend more money on a long display cable lol. Thanks for the suggestion i suppose its worth a try because I run the game at 4096x2160 on a 55 inch monitor.

Your HDMI cable is not the bottleneck, if it can output 8k 60 res. That's enough for 4k 120.

Sorry for the late reply. NVIDIA reflex is game dependent, so it isn't an option in the NVIDIA control panel. It will force the setting to "On" or if placed into "On+Boost" it will keep that setting. Cyberpunk seems to be the only game I play that prevents this option to be changed after enabling frame gen. This particular setting is to help with reduction of input delay with the game you are playing, but is not required in every situation.

As for the Low Latency Mode, that is in use if reflex is not an option for that game. Otherwise NVIDIA reflex will override it.

GSYNC works well with VSYNC. Although some games don't use GSYNC in windowed mode. Maybe try checking to have it in full screen? Or, at least check if GSYNC is enabled for windowed mode in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Lastly, ensure VSYNC is "disabled" in the in game settings you are planning to use frame gen with.

I got it working with frame gen on and no screen tearing. I messed aorund with a bunch of settings and I'm not really sure what made it work. I found a setting in control panel that could be set to "prefer max refresh rate" or "application controlled"

I changed it to application controlled, changed frame rate cap to 116.

Interestingly, with low latency mode set to on or ultra it increases latency by a lot.

So I keep it off and looks like reflex is set and locked to on in the game.

Thanks for your help. I'm not sure what the exact fix was but the prefer max refresh rate was maybe it.

Strange that the Low Latency mode setting to Ultra caused more input delay. Regardless, I am glad you were able to get it working! Happy gaming! :D
