Weird GPU Undervolt issue
I have always ran my 4080S on a small undervolt profile in MSI Afterburner and had the game setup nicely but no longer played. This patch came out and decided to load it up and as soon as I got in game, I froze up on the 1st step. Loaded it up again and same thing. Decided to do a benchmark, gets to the pool table - ctd.

I reset my card back to default, loaded up the game and went into settings and put DLSS on balanced just to be safe and game loaded and I moved around just fine 60 FPS. Went into settings put DLSS on Quality, made sure everything else was maxed - all good. I exited, went back into Afterburner and loaded my undervolt profile on my GPU, went back in game - perfect at 60 FPS, riding around, shooting people, etc.

WTF is going on? This is kind of why I stopped playing this game, it didn't load on the settings it used to work on, changed it, then went back to the original settings and it works just fine. Last time it was something with vsync and frame gen that ended up working just fine the way I had it after I fiddled with settings. It's a 4080 Super, there has not been 1 game I cant run ultra at 60 FPS in 4K but an undervolt issue? That then goes away? I am at a loss here....

No idea if this related to your problem, but someone had a problem yesterday with the new game update crashing on launch and doing a clean install of NVIDIA drivers helped him. It was major update, maybe there is something in the driver game profile that causes issues with the new update? Doing a clean install resets the driver settings and the game profiles to defaults. Maybe it's worth trying?

Well, what I am saying is, it works 100% fine now but that was after I reset my GPU voltage. Then I reset it back to what it was when it was crashing and it was fine. IDK, only ohter thing is, I had had to install the Win 11 24h update last week, maybe Afterburner got zorked or something and a reset fixed it. But, thanks for replying.

So if it works now then it could have been just a glitch and resetting your GPU took care of that. This was a big game update after all.

Yeah, logged into a 1.2MB download today too. After further reading, I think the culprit was the NVIDIA app tbh. Waiting til the end of the month for driver update like everyone else.
Enoch, that's actually a very common issue. A new driver alone may make the card use more power. This may require more volts. If underclocked many people have crashes when it used to be fine. The app may also be running the recording feature, overlay, and god knows what else. Like the Steam app recording feature actually records if set to record manually even when you don't have it recording. Only option is to actually select Recording Off. Then we have DLSS using the new Temporal stuff and this for me uses 5% more gpu for like framerate.

Yes, indeed, looks like GPU core unstable due to GPU core undervolt. Game getting terminated unexpectedly, is a classic symptom of GPU core instability. Whether it's with the message about Direct3D initialization failing, even after it was loaded already, or the message about being flatlined.
