PC control being overwritten by Xbox controls

So I am not, nor have I ever, used any kind of controller when playing PC games. I am mouse and keyboard only. But since the update, when I boot up the game, all the button prompts are xbox controller buttons.

Outside of the game I have tried right clicking the game and going to properties. I have tried disabling and enabling etc from there. It sometimes works and I can have a session with PC controls. But the next time I start the game up, it goes right back to xbox even though the settings in properties haven't changed. Its driving me nuts. Is anyone else dealing with this?

On Windows, you may have better luck disabling steam's controller thingy. Or restarting. Whatever works.
