normally its around 50 - 55c.
now .. when u say over heat .. what temp are we talking about ?
If it's cooled properly you should be fine even if it's at 100% load.
Check your cooling installation, making sure it's seated properly. Make sure your case has good ventilation, and that your cooler is sufficiently decent enough for the CPU you have. Use good quality thermal paste.
Given what you described and you recently upgrading, it's probably just not seated correctly.
This is what I thought too, but one more thing I forgot to mention.
I initially used the stock cooler that came with the i7-1300F when I upgraded. The red CPU light was turning on whenever I played ANY game. That's when I installed the AK400 cooler and it never overheated again.
It's now ONLY with Cyberpunk that it is overheating and red light turning on, so I don't think the fan is seated incorrectly.
Well, it's either insufficient or incorrectly seated. Period. This isn't an opinion. Some game may be heavier on the CPU load or such, but if you are overheating because of the cooling. Full stop.
That or something is critically and dangerously wrong with your PSU which, unless it's some shady cheap aliexpress PSU is highly unlikely, hence the previous statement.
(Random story covering it: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/cyberpunk-2077-phantom-liberty-will-be-very-cpu-intensive )
My CPU was asleep with like 10% usage. Max was 37% when booting the game.
Temps never went higher than 84c which was when booting the game, and mostly stayed at around 70c.
If you are even going above 80c it is 100% a you problem and not the game. Get a better cooler or repaste. It's either one of them or both that is the issue.
It can use up to 220W so its a HOT ONE!
Just re paste it and see if it makes any difference and then you will know.
I also went into my BIOS settings again and I turned OFF "Turbo mode", meaning no overclocking.
The CPU light no longer turns and and it no longer overheats, but this also means I am suffering a performance loss (very slight frame stutter in Cyberpunk under intense firefights etc).
It's a short-term solution but I'm guessing the cooler still isn't enough to keep it cooled at 100% load.
When changed to 90 max, my temperatures dropped on cpu and gpu by 20 and now is perfectly fine around 65-70 for both cpu and gpu.
I'll give this a go too. I'll re-enable my Turbo mode but try limiting the frame rate in-game and see how I go. Will report back lol.
