Huge unexplained FPS drops
When I launch cyberpunk and start playing im usually at a consistent 60-70 FPS on med, which is fine for me, even good considering my specs (Laptop, 1660ti I7 9750h). I play for a few minutes, and then my FPS drops to around 20 sometimes for the rest of the session, sometimes constant shifts from 60 to 20, depending on my graphics settings. I want phantom liberty, but cant justify if my game continues to lag like this. I have no idea why this is happening so any ideas would be great.
Already tried:
Windows 11 update, Graphics and Intel driver updates, ISLC (purge standby list), Reducing graphics settings to absolute minimum (only gets around 35 FPS anyway), power plan settings, turned off Xbox game bar, turned off background apps, uninstall reinstall, steam verify files, windows updates, virus scan, switching to an external monitor, cooling pad/temp of my laptop, closing unnecessary tabs. etc.

Sounds like thermal throttling to me.
Yeah, very possible honestly, whats weird is that once it happens, even if i pause the game and reduce load and heat down to resting levels, it still will lag. Almost like a switch rather then a slow decrease or fluctuation
Yeah, throttling happens abruptly. And will stay on until your temps go way under. Thermal recovery takes a long while. Use something to check your CPU and GPU temps and you'll know.

GUYS, THIS IS THE FIX:

Change your DLSS settings.

The sudden FPS drops is due to the game not loading fast enough or smth like that. Each time you change the DLSS, it basically refreshes the FPS back up to normal.

For example, if you have DLSS at 'Quality' and suddenly get your FPS drop, then shift the DLSS slider to 'Auto'. The FPS will then leapfrog back up to normal. You have to keep doing this everytime you get the sudden FPS drops. Sorry, but this is the only fix I found that works.

Dont have DLSS, not a fix. Only works on 40 series graphics cards so not applicable to 90 percent of people.

Ive undervolted to an insane degree, as far as possible without bluescreening, and keep temps under 180 C, which I know still isnt great but game still drops very low, and even at high temps once rebooted will go to 60 FPS, then drop to 20

Same, I went from 120+FPS at 1080p to 45-75 with lots of stutters.
I have a 3080 and a 10700k with 32 gigs of ram.
Yeah its clearly a game issue, hopefully 1.64 fixes it because 3080 should eat this game

found fix?
No fix yet, some temporary solutions but none that work universally.

I mean, you need to ENABLE DLSS. If you never enabled it, that's your issue
My card isnt even a 40 series card and I can use DLSS too. I'm literally using a RTX3060

Yeah you are right, its 20 series and up (RTX) but that still excludes alot of people including those with AMD cards

So... was your issue fixed or not??

I'm sure AMD cards work as well. There's a DLSS option for both Nvidia and AMD in the graphics settings

for me it happens and I have to close the game and start it again and where it was it had 30 40 fps and then it goes back to 60 fps and I don't understand, how annoying and even with gen fsr 3 2024 how is there still this problem?

AMD's dlss is called FSR and does the same thing. playes the game on a lower resolution and then upscales it with super resolution so you dont notice the difference. I used to play this game on a old computer that barely handeld wither 3 on medium. i got it for my birthday that was right after release. had to play the game on half the resolution to be able to play at all. would lag so bad it was unplayable even on lowest setting. Phat black bars around my game did the trick tho. it was horrible at first, but my mind kinda zoned it out so i dint notice after a while.

FSR and DLSS are both VERY noticeable. Mabye if you are blind, you wont notice but its a stark difference from native balanced or even quality upscaling. And what I meant was that frame gen wasnt available to low end cards (this is from 2023 before AMD FSR was available, and even then its taken till now to get a real quality upscaler implemented in Cyberpunk. Although FSR does have a similar end product now, when I wrote the thing you are quoting I was correct.
