Depending of your choices : -if you side with the Nomads, you leave Night City
-if you stay in NC (solo job or rogue ending), you are send in space to do some stuff at the crystal palace in orbit
-if you give your body to Silverhand, V's dead (for all intent and purposes) and Silverhand leave NC
The only choice where your fate is relatively unknown is the arasaka one.
When you complete one ending, you are given a gorilla arm (no clue why) and a piece of gear depending of your ending of choice. IIRC you don't get the loot itself, only specific iconic stuff related to that ending.
You're definitely still supposed to be able to play.
What's the point of getting exclusive iconic weapons like the shotgun in Smasher's Vault if you're not meant to play afterwards?
And smasher vault is before the ending, as its shotgun. If you are talking of the Ebunike vault and the iconic shotgun.
I've tried everything I can think of to fix it but nothing gets around it - my save breaks after I finish the game.
Yes, but you dont get the keycard for that vault until you finish off Smasher in the Rogue or solo ending. After I finished, I got returned to my point of no return save and still had the reward items plus keycard in my inventory, so I went back to the Ebunike and got the shotgun.
The warning before you start the mission literally says you need to complete this mission to be able to continue side quests afterwards.
They wouldn't have put in content after you finish the game or that message if this was intended.
Why would there be unique weapons available after finishing the game if I can't even equip them.
You can equip those unique weapons, you need to load the point of no return save, then you can continue with side quests and such if you did not already.
Is working as intended, as has been stated multiple times.
If it's not clear - that is the save I'm talking about that has been broken.
I do not have any other saves with those weapons so no, I cannot continue the game using those weapons because that is the only save that has access to them.
They wouldn't put those unique weapons in the game if they are literally unusable.
I don't know how else to explain this.
1. Finished game
2. Loaded my save after finishing (which returns you to BEFORE THE POINT OF NO RETURN)
3. Got the message saying that you can continue playing and received the unique items
4. Every job/quest is gone apart from Nocturne and my character behaves like they're in a cutscene (they are not).
5. I therefore cannot play the game on that save because I can't do any side quests or equip my weapon, sprint etc.
This is obviously not intended.
There is no way they're going to go to all that effort of putting you back before the point of no return, giving you a nice little message and items just for you to not be able to play afterwards.
If that is indeed the case, the only thing I can think of that may be corrupting your save file would be broken mods, or perhaps you are using a save file that is older than the newest updates (playing a save from 1.3>1.52>1.6 for example).
I know no one wants to hear it, but you really need to start a new game with each patch (interim or hotpatches excluded; it is okay to go from 1.5 to 1.52 with the same game, but if you upgrade to 1.6 you really do need to start a new game, there can be a lot of unforeseen consequences otherwise). This may not pertain to you at all, just throwing things out there.
I hope you are able to find a solution to your problem.
No, you don't. My old saves are still working fine. But then, I'm not using any mods ... Anyways, seems like the problem is on OPs end and not with the game. Corrupted gamesave, I guess.
