Game keeps freezing/crashing
I haven't played since launch so i reinstalled it and it keeps freezing immediately after starting up, usually around the CDPR logo. I tried all the basic troubleshooting steps:
Updated drivers
- Deleted all cyberpunk folders and did a clean install
- verified game files
- played around with graphics settings(if the game didn't freeze by then)
From what I've read its because of the new patch.
Specs:
-intel core i7-10700kf
-rtx 2070 super

Game still crashes/freezes.
So I sent out a ticket to devs. Got an automated reply to do this and that. Did everything the email said.

Thank you for reaching out.

Please perform a clean installation of the game. Carefully follow all the steps below.

Backup your save files. If possible, transfer them to an external device (for example, SD card).
Saves are located here: %userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077\
Disable Steam Cloud for Cyberpunk 2077.
Uninstall Cyberpunk 2077.
Go to your Steam directory and see if there is a Cyberpunk 2077 folder, if so, remove it.
Remove:
Cyberpunk 2077 folder from here: %userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\
REDEngine and CD Projekt Red folders from here: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\
Restart your PC.
Install Cyberpunk 2077 again, on SSD for the best performance. Do not install any mods.
If you are installing the game on the same partition as you have the Operating System installed, to ensure that the game won't be blocked by Windows permissions settings, make sure to install it on the drive root and not nested in some folders. Example path after installation: C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077
Run the game and see if it works.
If it's fixed, copy your save files to the newly created Cyberpunk 2077 folder in the location from step #1.
Re-enable Steam Cloud if you want.

If this does not help, please provide a crash log folder with the latest modified date:

Go to %localappdata%\REDEngine\ReportQueue\
You can paste this path into the Windows Explorer path.
Compress a folder with the latest date modified (e.g. to .zip) and provide it in the attachment.

The game still crashes. I didn't even bother backing up my saved files thinking something was up with them. Still the game crashes and freezes. Keeps freezing at the character select screen. Everything is up to date as far as everything can be. I have no clue what else to do.

i9-9900k stock, 4070ti stock. 32gigs of ram stock. So what the hell else could it be? I have 86hrs in the game, and don't mind starting new again. But damn, how can I get PL DLC if the main game won't even stay on.

I'm with you. I have almost 9 hours on record from 3 years trying to play the game. I can't play more than 10-15 minutes without the game freezing then crashing. Downloaded the game tonight, launched it, loaded my save, game freezes after 5 minutes, uninstall again. No other game has these kinds of issues, and to go through what feels like bogus instructions that you've shared from CDPR is just fluff. Nobody should have to jump through hoops and hurdles performing random software operations for a game we all paid full price for. Maybe that's just me.

Don't know what else to do and I honestly wish I could refund the game at this point. Held out hope the crashing would get fixed over the course of 3 years, but I guess not. I have a fairly beefy PC paired with a 3080. *shrug*

Yeah I agree. Everyone saying do this and disable this, add this. Like NO! I don't/shouldn't have to do anything to play a game. And I'm not sure what to do eithert, I just want to play and I can't. Yet they are releasing something new that majority wont be able to play because game just freezes for no reason.

Just to check, are you on Windows? And do you have the problem, where you can get to the main menu but when trying to start up a new game or load a save it just freezes after the load?

The only reason I ask, is because I play on Linux and I have this problem. So if you have the SAME problem on Windows; it's something to do with the game it's self and not because I'm on Linux.

game crashes no matter what all of a sudden
so, i recently decided to get back into the game and i went and updated my mods and made sure all of my drivers and pc itself as well as the game were up to daye. but no matter what i do or have tried the game keeps crashing either before loading into the title screen or right as i try to finish creating a new character. i dont know what to do. i have tried everything from deleting all the cloud save data to un installing and reinstalling the game wntirely and validating the files for the game.

Play without mods then. One of them is probably the culprit.
Deactivate one by one and check

I'm on Win10. And as mentioned before, I either keep freezing at the Title Screen, or when I am able to get into the game, I would either freeze trying to open map/inventory or close map/inventory.

Ran into the same issue as you and it’s infuriating. The interesting part about this was how yesterday I was using the old NVIDIA driver that was distributed in may of this year (didn’t update them until today) and I didn’t run into this issue that much. It would happen after a couple mins/hours of play time (probably because I was on a very old save and I was undervolting because of CPU cooling issues) but I was still capable of playing the game. I tried downloading the driver to fix these issues only to run into this issue at a bigger magnitude. I am thinking about rolling back drivers but since not too many people are complaining about this, I don’t know if the driver is the only and true culprit here.

Edit: I should mention I tried to do a clean install and make a new save but it crashes at that point as well. I pretty much am deadlocked from playing the game at all.

Win 10 here, seeing the same issue. Had been play for a bit too, yesterday I put in a few hours without a single issue, but today got a crash after 2 hours and now the game won't launch. I'll try the clean install, but I'm not getting my hopes up

did you use DDU in safe mode to delete the drivers totally before installing fresh copies? Just updating the drivers, if they're really old, does not always work correctly and can cause issues (due to old data still being present).

no, I just installed the new ones. Will removing old drivers do anything now that I've already installed the newest version?
well I just did it and the game still freezes

I'm experiencing all the same problems. I haven't played game since february and during start of the game it constantly freezes. When it comes to the CDPR logo I can see in task manager that game is using more than 45 GB of RAM. Totally a patch problem

Bump. Same issue and I only ever find the same copy paste answers from every page I find
