Revert the update - continue with mods
If you've modded the game and it crashes, you can revert back to the previous version of the game and use your mods, assuming you haven't tried installing updated versions of the mods.

Open a command window "Run" by pressing «Win + R» and then enter the command: steam://open/console

Then press Enter and paste this into the console to download the previous version of the game to a new location:

download_depot 1091500 1091501 3432449541687557896

Once the command is completed it'll state where it put the files. Typically it's one folder up from common game install, and then go into app_id and depot_#.

For me that would be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_1091500\depot_1091501

Regular Cyberpunk install-folder default is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077

Go into the depot folder, select everything with Ctrl+A, press Ctrl+X to cut it out, go to Cyberpunk install-folder and press Ctrl-V, click Yes to overwrite. You may also use Ctrl+C to copy instead of cut (Ctrl+X) but you need to be aware that you leave about a 60GB extra of files on your harddrive if you do.

Set the game in steam to only update when you launch it. Then, play in offline mode by opening a command prompt and entering ipconfig /release

To reenable your network connection open the command prompt and enter ipconfig /renew

Or just set your game NOT to auto update, and once you see a patch in the Steam downloads section, set Steam to offline mode - and play at your leisure until your mods have been updated.
If you missed this one, set your game up now to protect yourself for future updates.
If you mod any game, do not allow auto updates....

The biggest vulnerability is when players have this update just show up out of thin air and force its way onto your system. CDPR and not even streamers gave us a heads up about this update coming, just snuck it like a slipped envelope under the door while we were blind folded in the enjoyment awaiting 1.7 changes.

Can confirm this works. Highly recommend people become familiar with this method for any game, especially if you aren't keen on disabling auto-update.

Thank you for posting this. It works and definitely saved my play-through (not to mention I couldn't even get the game to launch with mods disabled after the update).

No need to play in offline mode, which also disables achievements. Just run the game as normal. OK, you might get further updates if one is released but Steam won't check which version is currently installed unless you verify game files.

I bought the game on GOG, and tried reverting to 1.61 with no luck. Still flatlines when I try and boot :( I'm trying to reinstall now but I don't think it will make a difference as it's likely one of my mods, probably Redscript or Red4Ext

If you had the game installed before the update, use System Restore. Go into properties for the game directory, previous versions tab, and restore from a backup taken before the date it was updated.

Thank you for replying. I think i screwed up by reinstalling because when I go in the game folder, right click select properties and go to previous versions, it says there are no previous versions available.

I am also an idiot and did not backup my original game directory before modding, so I suspect I will have to either wait until the mods update or try a fresh install with no mods in a new directory. Even then I may have to go into user/appdata to delete leftover files I think.

It doesn't matter if you uninstalled/reinstalled as long as the game was installed in the same location (path).

If you aren't seeing any previous versions, you could be low on free space – Windows will purge restore points to free up space for new stuff.

Hello, I have a problem and I do everything but when I start it, it asks me to update it and the command to play offline does not work for me, someone who can help me

hola tengo un problema e echo todo pero al iniciarlo me pide que lo actualice y no me funciona el comando de jugar ofline alguien que me pueda ayudar
I removed mod settings from:
r6/scrips
red4ext/plugins
archive/pc/mods

And I update tweaks, archive, red4ext, and worked for me. Now I can play with all the others mods that I have (that don't need mod settings)

You don't need to play offline. Let it update first, then revert to the previous version using either System Restore (see #8) or the steps listed in the OP.

Instead of doing the "ipconfig /release" step is it possible to instead run the game without steam? Read somewhere this game allows this

There's no need to do either. Just run the game normally. See my comment in #6.
