Cyberpunk 2077
Gpu Crash for unknown reasons![fixed!!]
Since June 2021 till now, I haven't played this game for a long time. Recently, I suddenly saw that the game was updated to version 1.31. I wanted to play it again on a whim, but I got endless crashes.

Software information
Game version: 1.31 (3.0.54.12658)
System version: windows 11 Pro 21H2 (22000.348)
Graphics card driver: Nvidia GeForce Game Ready 497.09 (2021-12-01)

hardware information
CPU: I7-8700K (overclocked by 4.7Ghz)
Graphics card: Nvidia 1080Ti (no overclocking)
Memory: 16GB (4266Mhz)

The repair methods that have been tried are all ineffective:
1. Game integrity check
2. Delete the entire game and download again
3. Remove all hardware overclocking and execute the game at the default frequency
4. Adjust the image quality to the minimum to run the game

Specific game crashes:
Just enter the game, select a new game, and within five minutes after entering the plot, it will definitely collapse.

Specific crash error(stacktrace.txt):
Error reason: Assert
Expression: <Unknown>
Message: Gpu Crash for unknown reasons! Callstack here is probably irrelevant. Check if Breadcrumbs or Aftermath logged anything useful.
File: e:\r6.release\dev\src\common\gpuapi\src\dx12\gpuapidx12error.cpp(41)

I send email to Cyberpunk 2077, They give me the soluation

Please try to reinstall your GPU drivers. To do so completely follow these steps:

Download the newest drivers for your GPU using the following link https://www.nvidia.pl/Download/index.aspx?lang=en, but don't install them yet.
Download Display Driver Uninstaller from this link -> https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html and run it to remove previous versions of drivers.
Clean install drivers that you've downloaded in step 1.

Next, please, follow the instruction below.

1. Delete:
REDEngine folder from here %userprofile%\AppData\Local\
CD Projekt Red folder from here: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\
2. Make sure that DirectX12 shader cache is not corrupted. To do so right-click on the hard drive where the game is installed. In the General Tab click Disk Cleanup and mark the DirectX shadercache tickbox. Unmark any other tickboxes and start the clean-up.
3. Restart your PC and launch the game. See if it helped.

Is worked !!! :steamhappy::steamhappy:
Bump for this useful thread as this problem with the dx12 cache seems to be effecting others. gpuapidx12error.cpp error for those doing a forum search.
Using reply #1, I played normally for a while and continued to get Gpu Crash for unknown reasons!

I have an ASUS 1080ti graphics card, by installing the ASUS graphics card overclocking software, and setting the overclocking to "silent mode" (low performance mode). I can finally play normally. Gpu Crash for unknown reasons never happened again!

It is hereby shared with those who are also troubled by this.

By the way, why can't CD PROJEKT make the graphics card perform as well as it should? Crash when overclocked? Can't understand this approach.

Detailed configuration:
  1. System Windows 11 pro 21H2 22000.434
  2. In the BIOS, the memory XMP is turned on, and the frequency is 4266Mhz
  3. CPU 8700K overclocked to 4.8Ghz
  4. The 1080ti graphics card is set to silent mode (frequency 1544MHz) using the ASUS overclocking software.

Once the frequency exceeds 1600Mhz, the game will crash. I have tried to set the frequency to 1911Mhz, but the game cannot enter

Bump for this Amazing solution it helped me fix my constant crashing after my NVIDIA driver update.
I've been running on SIlent mode for months. It didnt stop me from crashing. Not that it matters anyway, Nvidia updated its drivers a few years ago to use auto boost to make Nvidia cards go as fast as they can without burning out. It ignores what ever setting I have set in my ASUS overclocking software. For a game that needs as much power as it can get I am NOT going to underclock it further.

Thanks OP!!
I got a new PC with a 3080ti and had these crushes happen all the time.
Your solution completely fixed the problem!
after hours of trying different things this actually helped me https://youtu.be/tN_unOu-KS8
upd for my last comment, it didn't help but turning off my DDR5 xmp profile did. For some reason it kept crushing until i lowered 6000 MHz back to 4800
did all steps, including xmp.... but always directly after first frames and before intro.

I was having this issue approaching the kiosks that you can walk inside at Corpo Plaza, one under the ramp for the overpass, another near the place where you find the iconic Guts shotgun. As soon as I am just about to enter either kiosk the game crashes and the process repeated consistently on either kiosk for a collective 15 times.
I even uninstalled all texture changing mods I had but the problem persisted.
Then updated the drivers but same issue continued (and the drivers before were installed after running DDU).
Turned off FSR... and for some reason the kiosk at the park was now accessible without crashing. Go to the other one aaand... crash.
Never considered clearing the cache before
Gpu Crash for unknown reasons.
How fix that?

My two cents on this: I got a very similar issue, tried everything until found a solution.
1. run all steps from the list above (second message), make sure you clean DirectX shader cache on disk C: (some people say to do it on the disk with the game, but this should be C: for everyone)
2. find your game under Steam Library, e.g. "d:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077\bin\x64\Cyberpunk2077.exe" for me on disk D:
3. create a shortcut for the game on your desktop (anywhere you like) and make sure to grant "run as administrator" permission (right click on the shortcut, Advanced -> click on "Run as administrator")
It seems, the issue has finally gone. At last I played for 1 hour yesterday without an issue. The game used to crash in 5-15 minutes before.
HiH.
