what's the netrunner build now?
I started playing again recently and it seems like it's not as strong as it used to be. 2 years ago you were able to just use contagion and it would clear most things. What combos and cyberware should I be using now?

You want quite a bit of cyberware now, so both INT and TECH will be useful.

In terms of weapons, they are nudging you towards smart weapons for firearms, and the thermal monowire for a melee. There's a lot of synergy between smartguns and hacking now, like the standard smartgun link cyberware increasing max RAM, perks that boost smartgun accuracy based on max RAM or improve damage based on quickhacks uploaded,, or that give back RAM when you use smartguns to drop an enemy. If you have Phantom Liberty, you can even create a weapon mod which will cause a smartgun to have a chance per hit of triggering a quickhack based on which body part you hit. Again with the expansion, monowires can now provide a means to upload and spread a quickhack, but even without it e.g. the same perk that enables monowire finishers also lets you gain some RAM and health back from it.

When things get really hectic you'll run into issues not having enough RAM, so you can enable Overclock to hack using health. Thus, anything that'll get you back health will also help (e.g. there's an implant literally named "Heal-on-Kill"), and there's another perk that lets you get back health based on queued quickhacks when you neutralize an enemy in Overclock. There are no more quickhack cooldowns anymore, so RAM / health are basically the only things restraining you from going ham, and thus RAM / health regen are rather core. Queuing is a core mechanic now and there are combinations that will be more efficient or effective. So is stacking, e.g. Cyberware Malfunction gets additional effects when there are multiple stacks on a target.

Speaking of RAM: if you want to significantly boost crit chance with quickhacks, there's cyberware for that but it'll cost you max RAM. e.g. +30% quickhack critical chance w/ -4 max ram is possible. In the expansion, I see a cybernetic implant that gives +90% quickhack critical hit chance... but it takes up 55 cyberware capacity and *-8* max RAM, so that'll be a problem if you tend to feel RAM constrained.

You've probably noted the traces, so something to keep in mind is that once you get to Tier 3 stuff -- a Tier 3 Sonic Shock will cut off that enemy from communication for a while. Thus, if you follow it up with a single-target quickhack, that will *not* initiate a trace. You need a Tier 3 cyberdeck to have a Tier 3 quickhack, and rippers won't sell you a Tier 3 deck until level 20, but you can get there earlier if you're willing to pay the crafting component cost to upgrade a lower-tier deck instead. In my run so far, I'm at level 31 using a Tier 5 cyberdeck that I wouldn't be able to buy for another nine levels. In my case I'm using the Rippler, for the additional max RAM it offers.

You still have a lot of stealth toys. You can still take over camera networks, use Sonic Shock to cut off comms, use Memory Wipe to prevent an enemy from even detecting you for a little while, use Bait to lure an enemy into a more convenient location, etc.

At later tiers, weirder combos arrive. Like, at Tier 4, Contagion primes its targets for explosion if hit by a fire effect (like, say, overheat).

Dude... Netrunner builds are incredibly OP. Pump tech and Int to 20 as soon as you can, and feed a bunch of perk points into the overclock tree. Once your healing and damage synergize with your health level and quickhack queue, you can melt rooms with ease.

Sonic shock + Overheat alone can take out entire rooms of enemies without ever being detected.

You also become incredibly hard to kill even if you enter direct combat, and your RAM regen is near instant. I use blood pump with the health item autotrigger perk to support the build, and also maxed out cool to 20 to help with detection.

On a side note, optical camo is hilarious with crouch sprint and the associated relic skills + dashing. Supports a Netrunner build incredibly well.
