What is the earliest time I can grind?
Deshawn gave me a mission. Instead of doing it I would like to free roam and grind a bit. Is that possible at this time?

Not waxing alturistically like "Yes, but philisophically or other game perspective I think you should not, even though that doesn't answer the question"

But more like

"Yeah, go here, then go there, then go back to here and they'll respawns." Where here would be the locations you can do to affect respawns. I'll just reference youtube videos then but thanks everyone. It really is like pulling teeth for this one question even WHEN people agree with and grind when they want to.

Break out of the Watson Lockdown
As others mentioned, getting up on to the monorail tracks somewhere & then jumping on top of the train car as it approaches you will let you ride the monorail past the "turn back" auto-teleport. From there, as long as you can get down without dying, you can start unlocking fast travel points & then fast travel in and out of Watson as you like. If you do this, do NOT fully loot any NCPD-looking situations (identifiable by having a small yellow mission-objective icon without actually having a mission name yet). You can grab some of the loot, but always leave something (like the message shard) in the container, because the eventual mission completion trigger is based on "player looted something from this container"

Double your XP via quicksave/quickload
If you take down an opponent with nonlethal means, then quicksave & quickload, you can then lethally kill them to gain the same XP again.

Location for looping kills
In Pacifica, start at the Stadium Metro & work your way South-West down the street to the Apartments fast travel. In order, you'll encounter:
(rare respawn) Animals vs Scavs fight on a basketball court. There's a legendary grenade crafting blueprint that won't spawn here if Watson is still on lockdown, so you might permanently miss out on that blueprint.
(always respawn) 3 Scavs watching TV
(random spawn) A couple of Voodoo Boys hijacking some cars
(always respawn) an overhang with 3 groups of 3 Scavs underneath
(always respawn) 3 Scavs vs 3 Animals on a pedestrian bridge
(rare respawn) 4 Animals on a slightly raised vending platform
(always respawn) 2 cars of 4 Scavs each that drive in, versus 5 (or 6?) Nomads
(always respawn) 3 Voodoo Boys on next to the Pacifica clothing vendor. Sometimes that are 2 sets of 3. The 2 Mercenaries in the clothing vendor can also be triggered & killed for XP.
(always respawn) 3 Voodoo Boys on one end of a pedestrian bridge, with 3 more on the other end of the bridge.
(always respawn) 3 Voodoo Boys near the corner of an apartment building
(always respawn) 3 Voodoo Boys on an apartment ledge on the 1st floor (not ground floor) next to the fast travel point.

DON'T FAST TRAVEL YET & just run back up that route and you'll discover that the 3 Scavs watching TV have respawned & you can walk down the whole path again with everything will have respawned.

I'll note that I used stealth + Short Circuit quickhack (or Overheat while that was on cooldown) because I put almost all of my early attribute points in to Intelligence for a Netrunner build, so even if it initially took 5 or 6 zaps per enemy (when I was vastly underleveled), I was able to pretty consistently take them down & very quickly gain XP/levels. I imagine you could also do this with Tech weapons + silencer + the nonlethal weapon mod, if you're not equipped for quickhacks.

Yes. Not only is it possible, but it's a good idea.

I woulden't really recommend over-grinding at this early point in the game, but it would be a benifit if you atleast get to level 6 ~7 or so before proceeding.

You can go out and do what you want in the Watson area before the heist. There are a couple of events there that spawn after but you can grind most of them before the heist if you want to, you just can't leave Watson.

I recently started my 2nd playthrough (now nomad instead of streetkid), and by the time I started the heist mission I was level 9, and that was mostly from doing side-jobs and gigs.

I'm guessing a more thorough, "completionist" type player could likely stretch that to level 10 or 11.

But in theory, when could I grind endlessly? The events sound like they'll eventually end. Its no biggy at this point my character was healed by the doctor after what happens after deshawn. I just want groups of enemies that respawn fast so if I feel the need to grind its there...or I just want to.

Yes you can start grinding before getting into dex's limo you have plenty to do around watson, I made it to level 20 and like street cred 30 before getting into his limo

In my current play I had attained 10 Body, to handle LMGs and shotguns to their full potential, and farmed enough Street Cred via Street Smart clothing mods to be able to buy an upgraded cyberdeck and SmartLink hand mod before ever hitting Maelstrom or Konpeki Plaza. Also... enough money to avoid the danger of Meredith's credit chip

I'm not sure how much it helped, however...fighting and hacking my way through those adventures were still a strong challenge when I thought it would a dawdle.

Ok so we know I can grind, the question at this point is the how. I'd prefer straight forward killing things, like groups of enemies. Pacifica is to strong for me right now so Ill look for a weaker enemy spawn point, find out how far away I have to get for them to respawn, then do that. Hard to find an answer for that, I challenge anyone else to try.

I typically hit every crime in progress in Watson as I drive by them. They're an excellent source of of early eddies for a good bit of cybernetics which will help during the heist.

I recommend putting off grinding until after the heist, Alot of the fixer missions and locations will have uh..A different set of eyes so to speak, If you wait until after the heist to do them.

thats a good point i know what you mean..... i never thought to see what that eyes is you are talking about reaction to the watson missions just like on the rest of the map, should try that at some point, but heist is tricky early on

If you violate the lockdown and get out of watson in an early playthrough, DO NOT DO THE NCPD icon subquests, you can break several of them by doing it early. But you can grind everything else. And shoot anyone with an enemy icon on them, it's totally worth it to just run around killing everyone mercilessly.
The only ones that you don't want to wait to do are the romance related text messages, when your waifu/husbando says to hurry and come to me, drop whatever you're doing and go, some of them are timed.

which ones are timed? Never had that issue

I started over as I was doing an unarmed build which was fine but felt boring. I'm doing a gunner/crafter build now, it seems to give the player more to do in a great way!

There is one assault in progress near the stadium fast travel point. If you go shoot up the bad guys and loot the gas station early. You can not complete the NCPD mission there, later.

Safest thing is to stay away from NCPD quests until they are properly given.
