All Romances in game are bad (Spoilers)
I hate to say it. But in real life. You look for people who support you and your actions.

This includes your life style and path. Now I can't say much for River. But the females romances... they all literally ditch you when you do your own thing.

Now mind you; you do have to do things for them to romance them. Which is an obvious, but man what they do for you at the end? Nothing, you have to have faith they will do something for you. This usually won't end well. The DLC endings prove this theory.

Speak for yourself OP. I like the Panam romance.

I can't speak for the other romances, since Panam is the only romance in this game that I'm interested in.

edit:
Btw, Panam won't leave you unless you go with the PL ending.

She will. Do the merc ending. She was a merc, she met you as a merc, she ditches you when she realizes she can't persuade you to do her will and make you her tool. Not a wife material aspect.

I see, but that's on your V and your choices as a player. My V has already planned on leaving with Panam, so there are no problems.

Of course, when I leave will be a different matter entirely, as I'm not playing to do that ending anytime soon and am just sandboxing in Night City for now. For now, she comes over to my apartment to visit quite often.

The way I see it, everyone has their own path in Night City (just like in real life). Either you're both a match made in heaven or you've only formed a special bond under special conditions that can shatter in the blink of an eye.

While it did bum me out when both Judy and Panam decided that my deteriorating condition and decision to continue my grind in Night City, no longer fit the bill with their personal life paths, I respected their decision as I would have in real life.

This really showed me that they both have conviction over their personal desires and weren't just there to serve my every wants and needs.
We just sadly forked in different directions. (if you chose to, that is.) Of course doing the Aldecados ending bestows a different outcome for either gender roles.

As sad as it was to break up and go our separate ways, it felt right in the end (again, if you chose that specific path). You also don't want to bring them in harms way later on, if you get entangled with more dangerous adversaries in NC, which is pretty much what V does throughout the game.

I think both Panam (especially Panam) and Judy have shown their support but not blindly so. I mean Panam insists on helping you with your troubles with Arasaka and getting to Mikoshi. What more could a person ask for in a romance partner? But yeah, again, this is only if you make a certain choice in your endgame.

The other one bestows a happier conclusion and your romances seemingly continue to flourish until your last days.

Just my two cents.:Catexec:

River is willing to die with you though. Can you say this for the two females?

Hmm, well I don't know about Judy, tbh. She's a bit skittish when it comes to violent confrontations, though she did saddle up when it came to finding Evelyn. Could be she would do the same for you, but considering she just met you and wanted out of Night City for some time, it's up in the air how far she'd go down that rabbit hole with you.

Panam on the other hand, I believe will definitely die with you if there was no other way. Let's not forget, she did take a bullet for you when she helped you try and corner Anders Hellman in that Kang Tao AV, which she EMP'ed (much of the city along with it) out of sky.

The first time I played it, I thought she was next on the chopping block and I immediately felt bad for making her do this job with me. But thankfully, she was destined to survive it. Unfortunately, we couldn't say the same for her dear friend.

On the night of my decision up at Misty's loft, Panam was very adamant about picking me up and helping me along with her family (Aldecados) to handle this Arasaka/Mikoshi mission. It was considered a suicide run, but they all went in anyways.

So yeah, I definitely believe Panam is willing to die for you if it meant to save your life. She is truly the ride or die type.

It's too bad there wasn't a River raid operation into Arasaka. Seemed like he would jump in the hornet's nest with you as well.

To romance Panam you have to steal her from beneath her boyfriend, so I wouldn't exactly call that good. There are no good romances for men. Every other girl meets some tragic end.

Eh? I hope you don't mean Saul.

Saul is not Panam's BF, he's the leader of the clan, but it is never, ever, implied that the two of them have any romantic entaglement (Saul is also about twice Panam's age).

Yeah, Saul was more like a big brother to Panam.

Panams not a good Merc. She would have died without you. It is why even her own clan did not want to back her up.

Panam of course went to Arasaka. She has a pention to lean towards loot.

River was probably not allowed to go to Arasaka due to his law enforcement ties. Probably go after his relatives. Notice River is the only useful one in the DLC as well in a quest? The only one willing to go out of your way for you specifically in game. Is River. None of the females. None

I'm not into stories of whirlwind romances and not into stories of romances that require the main character to fix the love interest.

The two game romances that seemed worth my gametime both were long arcs of the main character just being an ear and shoulder while the NPCs fixed their own problems. Two very different games from one developer.

Sad to see what's become of Bioware since.

Without romancing the four in CP'77, they have so little time with V and still need V to fix them just as a friend. They stayed unromanced in all my playthroughs.

Then again, I've seen a situation of what happens IRL when a person wants someone else to fix things. No matter what someone else does, that person remains broken and needy. I've come to the conclusion that people must ultimately fix themselves. We can support them, but we can't do it for them.

River is that creepy guy who thought I was into him just because i was nice to him ... like, dude, I helped you find your nephew cos it was the right thing to do, not because I'm into you.

I believe the research behind River was done well, as this kind of comes as a play IRL. Law enforcement usually don't have lasting marriages due to their personalities. If they see good in a person, or simply put they simp. A lot. To be frank, a lot of law enforcement are childish in terms of relationships. Put the rule before the relation, and you will find yourself in a lonely ordeal. Again it is the personality. Sooner or later your loved one will test you if your willing to put aside your honor / rules for them.

It is in my opinion, that law enforcement don't go out often enough and don't socialize. So they take every opportunity that comes to them if the person is willing to accept their life style. V, technically a merc, understands stress of the world they are in.

That's a pretty good point, actually. It's a good explanation why it feels like he comes on a bit too strong.

"Hallmark Channel After Dark"

That's what I'm going to call M+ video game romances from now on.

There's a TV in the lobby, and they always have the Hallmark Channel on. Whirlwind romances that have someone "fix" someone else is all that I've ever seen on that channel, but they just don't do the adult stuff.

So "Hallmark Channel After Dark" is what I think fits for all video game romances that are for M+ games.
