Avoid Jackie's death ?

While stealing Arasaka's chip at the Konpeki Plaza, there was a gunfight and Jackie died of his injuries.

Is this something that happens automatically in the scenario, or is there a way to keep it alive until the end of the game's story ?

It's scripted and can not be avoided because "choices matter" ...

Removing Jackie helps increase the tension. He escorts you through the three major conflicts before the heist. Having him die isolates you and removes your principle back up.

In fact, it was while evacuating the hotel that I was spotted by the guards and we had to engage in combat. It's really unfortunate the death of Jackie, I found it quite sad.

Yes, I forgot that "detail".

But I thought that by avoiding the fight in flight, there was a way that his injury would not worsen and that he would survive.

I found him really likeable Jackie.

If you look up just before you can stand after falling you can see him use a hypo. He's gutshot and that usually doesn't instantly kill someone, that's from my knowledge of medicine gleaned from movies. The Jackal, ironically.

I wish he didn't die that way we wouldn't have to be stuck with keanu reeves and go though that stupid story only to die at the end.
