Does Soulkiller transfer the consciousness of an individual, fry the brain, and turn it into an engram or does it make a COPY of the consciousness. fry the brain, and then turn it into an engram? Like is the engram the actual person who got fried by Soulkiller or is it just a copy of their consciousness? Thanks.

That's a question that is left unanswered by the game, and I think that's done on purpose.

A writer for the game stated that the game explores transhumanism, but it doesn't reach a definite conclusion. That's for the players to decide.

Soulkiller makes a copy of the person's psyche, then kills the person. However, the program doesn't have to kill the person to make a copy - hence, Saburo's engram being made before his death.

Basically, the rich can upload their psyche periodically into the Mikoshi 'cloud' and in case of death, have their psyche downloaded into a clone or "neurologically-neutral" host.

However, the continuity of person, or soul, is gone - as the soul is tied to the person's physical form and cannot be translated into software code.
