Can someone help me understand the King of Cups ending?
SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY TO COME

This post was originally a long, angry ranting post about how the FIA and their ilk dropped the ball insanely hard during the whole Dogtown debacle, and how little ol V was the only person around to pull their collective kiesters out of the fire.
BUT... I've taken the mature route.

When I arrived at the presidential pickup with Songbird's body, I understood how everyone was a little salty and depressed. At least Reed seemed to mostly blame himself. And Myers being an enormous POS and giving me the finger was a little expected, but still angering.

Then Reed calls me a few days later, I assume to just wrap things up, give me any pertinent info thats developed, etc.
NO.
He calls me to lay the blame for EVERYTHING at my feet. Tells me I'm a huge failure, that I let him, the pres, songbird, alex, God himself and my momma down. That its my fault Song is dead, its my fault he lost his job, I'm excommunicated, compromised, and even potentially going to be wacked. I was SO CONFUSED.

From my perspective, I did all the heavy lifting, all the legwork, all the risk, all the fighting. I saved Myers, I found SB, I got us into the party, I got us the fake IDs, and it was HIS little runner killer daemon that failed that got Alex killed and pushed Song over the edge.

Did I miss something? How is this my fault? Is it just me taking the blame, or did I miss something and actually do something wrong to fail so bad?

I just got this ending last night and I don't think its our fault at all. For the two possible endings siding with Reed, in my opinon this is definitely the better of the two. After seeing the flashbacks of So Mi I believe we made the right choice to end her suffering. Even the conversation with Johnny that follows in the apartment he acknowledges we did the right thing. We know Myers is a self centered POS so can't take her too seriously.

In my opinion with Reed, it's the fact that he lives by his ideals and can't come to terms with straying away from it. He's a loyal dog to the FIA through and through. His way of coping is shifting the blame and not realizing where he continues to fall short after all these years.

SPOIL

There are 4 choices for PL :

1) You help Song and kill Reed -> Only way to save Song (Alex kills Hansen)

2) You help Song then give her to Reed -> new PL ending available (you will lose everything but live old)

3) You betray Song (Alex is killed by Hansen) then let Song alive -> same as 2) Song can't be saved, will become Cyberpsycho...

4) You betray Song then kill Song -> NUSA not happy, no PL ending

Betraying Song is better if you want Blackwall quickhack.
I prefer Panam's or Johnny's secret ending.
If you remember Dexter : you prefer to live old or die as legend ?...

You shot Mommy?

I'm glad Reed was mean to you.
Captain Skinny Feb 6, 2024 @ 11:34am
No, I didn't shoot her!
I unplugged her and she died in my arms. Poor girl didn't deserve to keep suffering.
Really, the real tragedy is the death of my Greekfu Alex.

Which is another point. They have NO IDEA what went down in that bunker, what I did to try to save Song, or why she even died.
For all they knew, I was just too slow and had no hand in her death at all. But I take all the blame. Me. A contractor.

I also didn't even realize there were other boards for things, my b

that is what PanPan meant by
'betray song then kill song'

you took Reed's side at the turning point (betray songbird) then, when you went to rescue her, you ended her pain by letting her die in your arms (kill songbird)

Reed is salty because deep in his heart, he can't admit this was the right thing to do.
he does not want to admit, even to himself, that Myers will KEEP using Song, long past her sell-by-date.
Myers is salty because her walking nuke is turned off. she's going to have to find some other poor mook to take Songbird's place. that takes time, money, effort. things she has ot got time for, since its coming up to election year.

nether of them trully cares what went down in the bunker. all they care about is that
1) (Reed) someone he cared about, is gone. and since he was not the one to do it, he blames V. (i know that sounds odd, but if she had died in HIS arms, instead of V's, he might have been able to accept it.

2) (myers) her super secret deadly device is gone. while she may care for Song SoMi as a person, her military and presidential mind gave up on the human long ago, and resigned her to the state of 'walking, talking tool' the only reason she wanted her alive (her...not both of you, remember that) was that she needs to keep her secret, keep her from blowing up, and keep her under her thumb. if anyone else found out she was messing with the Blackwall, they would 'dissapear' fast, because that is the kind of thing that could be used to totally destroy Myers. not just a 'you are going to jail, madam president' but the 'netwatch has sent assassins after you, have you perhaps, met Aguilar?' (lmao XD) levels of sh*t to wade out from.

also.
standard procedure to blame a contractor first, rather than agent second, all the way up to a president.
or how did you think Johnny Silverhand ended up as 'the guy who blew up Arasaka Towers' hm?
MiliTech and Arasaka both did him over after his death.

Worst 5000ed I ever made...

Can't believe I suffered through the knockoff alien isolation segment for 5000ed and some salty texts

It's people being salty for putting all their bets on one person who didn't accomplish what they wanted the person to do. It's the whole "You had one job" thing when they don't care what all that "one job" truly entailed.

From their perspective, the end sum is that V failed.

People being shortsighted, seeing only what it important to them, and blaming someone else for what went wrong while they did nothing. Sounds a lot like real life.

I was bummed by the kill Song ending too....I went back and refused to end her, and got to The Tower, which I don't regard as a particularly bad ending although It's not a 'happy ending' either, exactly.

I find that this game's ultimate theme is that the price of glory/fame/wealth/idealism can easily turn out to be too high.
