Why isn't there an ending where....
You are cured and you get to keep Johnny in your head. Seems like that would be a pretty good ending

Because the engram deploys nanites which reshape V's neural pathways to become Johnny'
s, recognizing V's neural structure as an invader in their host body. Eventually, V will be a stranger in his/her own body because the body-mind connection is severed and they don't recognize each other as a unit anymore.

The only way V and Johnny could survive together is if they as consciousnesses combined into one "new" conscious entity. Honestly that was one way they could have gone with a new ending DLC. Basically V and Johnny after becomomg 100% approval or something, could "merge" and cease being different people. This was kind of happening already. They have the memories of both but are completely one and the engram treats them as one host (Akin to the merging of Delemain AIs with enough Intel).

I'm pretty sure people would have been upset by that and would have been asking for an ending where "V just lives."

The other problem is that the powers that be that will help with the Chip (corpos, national states and AI) save for Alt, probably have a huge interest in separating V from it. The technology is too important to leave in gonk V's head. :D

Or...Alt could hold onto Johnny for 10 bloody minutes, while V goes and kleps another Relic from the Mikoshi stores, and then slip him onto a NORMAL Relic (instead of Saburo's personal hail Mary Relic, you know, one that doesn't overwrite) and then V and Johnny could have 6 months together, looking for ways to save V, and in the end, have pizza and beer on the beach in Pacifica and flatline together
(the Sunset ending, as I call it. For those of us who don't think their V would take over the Afterlife, and/or never romanced anyone)

Yeah, its death. But together, on their terms.

Happy endings don't happen in Dystopian genre. Best you can hope for is a vague "what-just-happened" ending. But "dystopian" means it's gunna be bleak, generally.

It's not Jane Austen . . .

I mean, I wouldn't call an ending where V and Johnny merge a happy one. In this hypothetical ending, Johnny and V, as everyone knew them, would be effectively dead, with some new person walking around in V's body.
Although I would really like an ending like this, it would be a bittersweet one at best.

I was hoping that having the who wants to live forever ending from phantom liberty would combine with the devil ending to have a better ending, like have reed send the cure thingy to the space station and boom. You get to live with no "cyberware hurts you" nonsense.

Who the Hell would want to live with Johnny Silverhand in their head 24/7?

Guy's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ narcissist control freak with a god complex. Literally the definition of toxic even before his presence was actively killing you. Sure, he had lots of great points about society and especially corps but personality wise I found him to be an insufferable douchebag. Loved pissing him off and was happy to get rid of him in the end. So completely self-absorbed and full of himself - good riddance, rest in piss, etc.

V doesnt die in 6 months though, you can play post game that long, or longer. So the 6 months ending as I posted about doesn't happen either.

This is a gameplay mechanic to allow you to keep playing after finishing the main quest. It isn't canon.
