Is V dead during the voice mail messages in the credits?

Got the Star ending and during the credits a bunch of people V interacted with throughout the story try to call him but he isn't picking up, is this just meant as a little recap on all the people you helped or is V actually dead?

Nah, V is kinda-sorta ghosting everyone after the ending, somehow. My (and some else's folks' theory) is that V's trying to distance themselves from their friends and push them away so they won't take it quite so hard when V finally dies six months later.

V is still alive. If you romance Judy and pick the Star ending, you'll hear her talk to Judy.

Tone and content of messages is a big steer to V's status. Vik's for Star ending is something like "How you enjoying the desert? Next time your in town, come see me" and so on, isn't it? As you say OP, it's about relationships and characters and it's an elegant way to allow for the different potential endings but have that compare/contrast with the talking heads.

Definitely supporting the ghosting theory. In addition, IF they tie in DLC, expansion, or even a sequel to the game, having more vague responses (with the exception of one particular ending) gives them more wiggle room
