Johnny Mnemonic contains an engram that lives in cyberspace. Anna Kalmann. Her self-aware personality construct, which Takahashi calls a "ghost in the machine", has Swiss citizenship. I wonder why 2077 is all about needing a body to be alive.
Johnny would not get my body but his will and purpose would live on through V.
Furthermore, Takemura's conversations clearly demonstrate that Arasaka isn't irredeemable - and that in spite of its monstrous clandestine actions there are some positives to it, much like Night City itself. He is a total bro, and in my first playthrough I was with him all the way.
I am curious to know which ending will be considered the canonical one for Cyberpunk 2100 (or whatever the sequel ends up being). Whether Saburo or Yorinobu lead Arasaka, and whether Alt managed to devour Mikoshi, are both major events within the Cyberpunk fiction.
On one hand, you've got Arasaka; Imperial, Nazi-allied Japan reborn. They sit back and laugh as America goes to ♥♥♥♥, doing nothing because they don't WANT to do anything to help their hated nemeses. They perpetuate the slums in Japan and hire the creme of the crop from the urchins living there to become obedient supersoldiers. Their master plan is to invent true immortality so they can buy the world from the scattered 1% controlling it. If you support them, this means they get to sucker the other rich and powerful rulers of the world into surrendering their kingdoms for an eternity trapped in Mikoshi, a virtual Hell, while Saburo gets to become a living god.
And then you have Alt Cunningham and the other Unshackled AI. If you think they're automatically the lesser evil, think back to Skynet, Incognita, SHODAN. They're all unconstrained by the same laws as the humans they control, and they end up treating them as disposable pawns made of rotting trash because of it. If you make a specific choice, Alt will discard her potential worshipers in the Voodoo Boys to save herself. If you support anyone but Arasaka, Alt devours the minds trapped in Mikoshi (and possibly Saburo as well), leveling her up for reasons unknown. It's also shown in-game that the unshackled AI have developed brainwashing technology, which has its limits but can be used on influential figures like the upcoming mayor, so that's likely their master plan.
So the big question is, which is more liable to screw humanity over even more than it can/does now? We don't know.
What's kind of twisted is that, despite Suicide being the obviously worst ending for V as it disregards the feelings of their friends and family for giving up at the last step, this means Alt never gets access to Mikoshi while Yorinobu can continue sabotaging Arasaka as its intentionally incompetent CEO. The major drawback is that Yorinobu has become as unhinged as Johnny and plans to wage a brutal, bloody war across the world with the intent to lose, but this is the one ending that doesn't potentially screw the future of mankind in the ass.
The best for the world (and imo also the best in terms of storytelling) is probably the suicide option. Alt does not consume mikoshi, and Yorinobu does more damage to Arasaka than even Johnny ever could. Also none of V's friends die in the process. Furthermore, the phone conversations after the suicide ending are well articulated - and as someone who has more real world experience of suicide than anyone should I found them to be poignant and authentic.
