Is it worth doing all the side gigs?
I've done a few and they were somewhat interesting but there's no story build around them right? It's mostly just "loot this document" or "kill this guy" or "steal this evidence" etc

Or are some of them key to the overall story of the person who issues the gigs?

When you complete the Side-Gigs for any of the NPC's giving them, you finish their story and usually get some kind of OP Item from them afterwards...

I've found other discoveries/items/quests, hidden in the backstreets n stuff while doing them too..

Totally worth doing them...

Is it worth doing all the side gigs? It depends on who you ask. If you ask me, then I'd give you a big emphatic yes.

But that also depends on how deep you want to sink into this game's immersive world building qualities. If you're the type who only wants to run what's on the surface level of the game, then most of these side gigs and hustles might seem superficial to you.

Since I ended up really getting into this game, you could say I obsessively tried looking for as many side gigs as I could, even after completing all of them (there are some hidden biz's throughout).

They gave me a ton of world building elements that helped me understand and appreciate the muddy cyber bowl I was in. They add weight of significance to the main mission.

But again, this solely depends on how you absorb the content. If you feel they do nothing, then they won't serve any purpose for you, outside of superficial looting.

You asked if some of them are keys to the overall story. In some aspects, yes, very much so.
Especially in regards to corporate wars and the whole nasty conspiracy thing behind Biotechnica and a particular regional director of tech there, just to list a couple of examples.
All the jargan you'll hear from some main characters in your quest line, will make more sense and thus you'll feel the weight of these interactions.

Take for example, a certain nomad having a debate with other nomads over a collab with a certain corporation. If you pay attention to certain fixer gigs, NCPD hustles, etc, (read shards and terminals) you will find the scene more meaningful and it may persuade you to make a certain choice of dialogue later in the game over a matter relating to it.

So that's why I say, yes. But as we a see in this community from time to time, some people just zip right through these things and won't read a word past descriptions and subject matters.

Hope this helps. :Catexec:

The fixer gigs take you to every corner of the map, and give you some nice rewards for completion.

If you are not enjoying them, then dont. Just be aware that these side activities are a major portion of the game's content.

Outside of general world building they don't really connect to the main story. If you're a player who isn't interested in the game content unrelated to the story, you can skip them. However, they're the largest source of XP outside story missions and not doing them might leave you under-leveled.

If you want to experience what makes Night City Tick...do the' Gigs, Hustles aka (NCPD), Cyber Psycho jobs, Side Jobs, Random request received via people that have heard about you (usually because of your rep) and any other quest that you come across.
The rewards for finishing all of a fixers gigs are nothing to scoff at.

Just wish the nomads had strapped some guns to theirs.

AFAIR most the fixers do have an undercurrent connected story throughout their gigs. With, a lot of the time, earlier gigs resulting in a connected followup down the line. Like Regina as an example having multiple involving the russian mob that lead from one to another, the separate sub plot involving the media and an expose on corporate screwery involving veterans and cyberware, and the one involving cleaning up a particularly vile tyger claw and then some of his lackeys to try to really put a pin in that business. This is mixed in amongst less connected stuff that still sticks to a theme too.
You just aren't going to notice the connections and links if you are blindly treating it as a checklist to go through.
Fixers usually give you rare weapon or piece of equipment when you do all their gigs.
Wakako for instance gives you one of the best katanas in the game.
Most of what I'd say has been covered by the above points, which is to say I'd highly recommend doing them even if only for the rewards some of which are pretty fun.

One thing I'm not sure was mentioned is that for pretty much all of the "kill this guy" quests they have minor alternate endings if you manage to take them alive instead. Complete with new voice lines from the fixer for doing so.
They are worth doing if you enjoy the game, I enjoy the game-play so I do them personally, I enjoy exploring and just generally enjoy checking out the sights of the city so I very rarely use fast travel to get around, usually a motorbike, doing the side missions you go to parts of the city you would never see if you just followed the main story missions, there are some really cool looking places to visit.
It's subjective. I just mosly stick always to main quest, do side gigs only when i have to wait a call.
Some of the side gigs will give dialog options during the main story

For instance there is a number of of Netrunners you meet in sidegigs that can choose to have help you in tracking Songbird later on , maybe, depending on how you end things
Gigs are worth a nice chunk of XP as well. For those looking to level up.
Yes but at the same time no. Most of them don't have any real impact on the main story, but you do get lots of XP and items.
The issue is that reaching level 50 isn't difficult at all to achieve and you'll reach that easily by doing even half of the side content, the game can be pretty boring at max level as everything just dies super fast.
You'll become OP much faster if you do the side stuff.. EASY leveling
